14-year-old boy is fatally shot
Edited on Mon May-31-10 06:54 PM by onehandle
A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot last night on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester and two suspects were in custody, police said.

The teen, whom police would not identify, was shot multiple times in the chest just before 8 p.m. He was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they recovered the gun they believe was used in the shooting, which occurred less than a month after another 14-year-old, Jaewon Martin, was shot to death on Parker Street near the Jamaica Plain/Roxbury line.

Martin was a popular honors student in the eighth grade at the James P. Timilty Middle School in Roxbury.

1. Good job on the cops.
Prayers to the unnamed family and to the Martins.

Sad piece of journalism on behalf of The Globe.

4. Ban 14-year-olds. It's the only way to be safe.

12. Well, that would require...
...that onehandle commit to actually expressing some policy preferences.

"Bad people do bad things because of guns and would not have the imagination to do bad things without guns."

Like the First Law of Poodles*, you just have to accept it.

Police officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said they believe the shooting was gang-related. They said Lopes and one of Nicholas’s male relatives are involved in rival gangs and they are investigating the possibility that the boy’s death was a result of that feud. Davis said at the news conference that Lopes had a “significant record’’ involving firearms.

A 14 year old is dead because the POS that pulled the trigger should have been behind bars a long time ago; yet bloviating windbags
like Patrick, "Mumbles" Menino, community leaders, the press, etc will go on and on that more gun control laws are needed... in a state with with some of the most strict laws in the country.

Think they'll demand stricter sentencing laws? Don't count on it.

9. Stricter sentencing laws? Fat chance ...
Passing "feel good" laws is cheap. Actually putting the bad guys away for a long time is expensive.

Politicians love to parade around and do the pre-election shuffle.

10. Putting bad guys away means:
they would have to let out some pot users to make room, eh?

11. Sounds good to me ...
Marijuana should have been legal at least half a century ago.

We also should have never got into the stupid War on Drugs. What a total failure that has proven to be. Prohibition never works.

13. There should be a law against this. Fatal shootings not in self-defense should be illegal. NT

14. And the gang-related shooting was witnessed by police!
Police said an undercover police officer witnessed the shooting, which happened so quickly he was unable to stop it.

So even with a police officer witnessing the crime, it still happened. Kind of puts a nail in the coffin of the idea that people should rely on the police for protection.

Police officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said they believe the shooting was gang-related.

Once again, this firearm crime, like over 90% of them, was committed by people who cannot lawfully own firearms anyway.
