Feingold is "leaning against" renewing Assualt Weapon Ban
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 06:12 PM by Township75
From the article:

"A lot of gun owners are upset about some of the powers that have been given to the federal government," he said. "We're going to try to change that." When asked about the right to bear arms, Feingold acknowledged he originally voted in favor of banning so-called semi-automatic "assault weapons." But he said he hasn't sponsored legislation to continue the ban and is now "leaning against" renewing it.

"At these town meetings over the years, I've heard a lot of people say there might have been some misinformation about what these weapons - guns - really are," Feingold said. "There are some semi-automatics that really aren't assault (weapons)."

Another Democrat gets it! It will be interesting to see if some people try to label him as corrupted by the blood money of the corrupt gun industry, blah, blah, blah...

THe AWB isn't worth the paper its on. It will sunset, and the anti's will suffer another loss....which they are familar with by now.

3. REAL assault weapons
Meaning weapons with select-fire capability (semi and automatic fire) have been restricted since the National Firearms Act of 1934. None of the weapons prohibited by the AWB are true assault weapons. They are semi-automatic rifles with "scary" features like bayonet lugs and ergonomic stocks and grips.

5. We need some General Semantics principles here
Death to the verb "to be".

If you can't define assault weapons without it, you probably can't write a definition that works.

4. If True...
His move & motives might be to help Dean who is a gun owner/rights supporter.

Look for Feingold's endorsement of Dean very soon as confirmation.

6. Maybe, but Dean supports renewing the AWB.
However, he may be attempting to become more pro gun in pro gun WI as well as fit in better with Dean and become his VP.

7. Volunteers to tell Feingold he's not a "real" Democrat?
(Sarcasm on)

Feingold, another tool of the NRA and corrupt gun industry.

Someone has to let him know that he is going against the vast majority of the US population on this issue and, as we all have been told, could not be a real Democrat.

(Sarcasm off)

It is refreshing to see someone finally realizing they were hornswoggled on this issue way back when. Now if Feinstein has an epiphany like this I may have to call for the defibrillator.

I guess we can see him showing up on the VPC "Enemies" list pretty soon or at minimum an angry press release.

10. You are getting very sleepy, very sleepy Senator Feingold
(The brainwashed start to wake up.)

Soon you will drift off to sleep Senator.

When I snap my fingers and you wake up, you will realize that for the last 10 years you have been the unwitting tool of a Republican run organization that uses fiction and biased studies to sucker Democrats.

Their ultimate goal is to achieve the overthrow of the Democratic Party in this country by having them lose one election after another by following an unpopular doctrine.

Since you last voted on this your party has lost control of every branch of the government.

You will awake refreshed and realize that law abiding gun owners are a major voting bloc in the country and especially in your home state, you big cheddarhead you!

"SNAP"

11. The photo clearly illustrates
someone who is obviously ignorant of firearms safety procedures who is attempting to "educate" those of us who do know our way around a weapon(and the unknowing sheep who are willing to follow swallow it whole love her for it).

I wonder where this photo was taken. Did she have a permit for it. Mere possession in D.C. gets you a mandatory year in the slammer (I believe that it extends to longarms). I wonder when the trial begins.

12. Senator Rockefeller
Remember when he admitted to having an AR-15 inside the DC city limits? Why, they asked? Because it was a high crime area and it made him feel more secure to know he could effectively defend himself and his family.

13. I wonder how she came to possess that gun?
Did she go through a background check? Was it given to her from a friend?

I really doubt the gun companies gave her one to help her out.

Anyone know?

14. That was a photo opportunity in San Francisco, CA
IIRC - The Department of Justice provided the rifle for her to use as a prop.

The photo is circulated widely on pro-gun boards and Web sites so her lack of trigger discipline and poor muzzle control can be lambasted. I share many gun owners' outrage at having someone who doesn't know the first thing about gun safety trying to preach it to us.

16. Members of Congress and Staffs are allowed to have them
In the District and in the Capitol, any guns they want. Conveniently, the ban is only for the little people.

"Members of Congress and Staffs are allowed to have them."

"In the District and in the Capitol, any guns they want."

Is this really true?

19. This is bull
Only LE officers and military can have guns inside the capitol city.

That is why our enemy Orrin Hatch got himself deputized as a US Marshal so he could own a handgun in DC.

I am sure others have done it but Congress is subject to the same laws as us (unless they are sneaky like Hatch).

20. Actually, Hatch has created a bill to remove the no handguns in DC..
to his credit he is trying to give the same liberties to comman man as to the politician...not going to see a gun grabber do that.

22. I do not believe this is about gun control...
... its about kicking around DC to score points at home. I would have no problem (process wise) with Hatch attempting to set certain upper limits on state and local gun control measures nationally but he has no business doing it to DC only.

It comes down to an issue of local control for me. Congress should not micromanage the District's activities.

As for Hatch, I don't like his disturbing lack of respect for our fundamental rights (civil liberties).

23. Just ask Carl Rowan
http://www.freedomforum.org/templates/document.asp?documentID=3625

In 1998, Rowan — who advocated strict handgun control — was arrested and charged with using an unregistered weapon to wound a teen-ager who had intruded into his back yard. He argued that he had the right to use whatever means necessary to protect himself and his family.

A mistrial was declared after the jury deadlocked.

Or how about asking Million Moron Marcher, Barbara Graham/Lipscomb.

Story

A grieving mother convicted of shooting a young man she blamed for her son's killing was sentenced to 10 years to life yesterday in an unusual case that laid bare the despair and rage of the city's gun battles....

Still, Graham had her supporters. Throughout her trial, she was backed by the leader of Mothers on the Move Spiritually, a Prince George's County group that helped organize the Million Mom March against gun violence in May 2000.

Perhaps the gun control advocates in DC should re-exam their own integrity?

Russ read one of my letters asking him to let this stupid law sunset.

(now if only the owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, Sen. Herb Kohl, would do the same)
