Trooper gives up gun and seeks counseling

Saturday, January 10, 203

BY MARYANN SPOTO
Star-Ledger Staff

The state trooper who fired his weapon in a fit of rage in the parking lot of a crowded diner in Point Pleasant has turned in his guns and is seeking alcohol counseling, his attorney said yesterday.

Trooper Ronald Poll is taking time off from work to "address some problems" that culminated in his discharging his private weapon in the parking lot of the OB Diner a week ago, said attorney Charles Sciarra.

The employee said police returned to the scene an hour after the shooting to search for a gun. Officials from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the New Jersey State Police would not comment on whether investigators were looking for a gun or whether the troopers reported the incident immediately as required. Sciarra said police were not looking for a gun. He said Poll voluntarily surrendered his service weapon and his privately owned, licensed sidearm -- the gun that was fired in the parking lot.

Another great moment for gun control. Here is a well trained background checked law enforcement officer, the only kind of person that needs a gun mind you, with a registered gun showing us how much all of that great stuff pays off. Bravo New Jersey, Bravo Gun Control!

3. Maybe only well trained police officers
and the military should be allowed to have guns.
