Guns haven’t changed state parks (Tennessee)
NASHVILLE — In the 15 months since Tennessee handgun-carry permit holders got the right to go armed in state parks, two gun-related incidents have been reported at state facilities and neither resulted in violence, officials said.

“I am pleasantly surprised,” said Tennessee Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke, who in 2009 lobbied against the so-called “guns in parks” bill. “I believed that it was not a good idea.”

The legislation, which took effect in late June 2009, allowed permit holders to go armed in all 53 state parks and 81 state natural areas. The bill included local parks but allowed local governments to opt out. Many, such as Chattanooga, did just that.

Fyke said the law “has not been disruptive” for the most part.

A “major” exception, he said, involved a Dec. 20, 2009, incident in which rangers at Radnor Lake State Park in Nashville stopped Leonard Embody, who had an AK-47-like handgun strapped over his shoulder.

They detained Embody nearly three hours before releasing him without charges after determining he had a lawful carry permit and a legal weapon.

BUT, BUT, BUT, there was SUPPOSED to be blood flowing on the trails. Once again, LAWFUL gun owners prove prophecies of doom and gloom incorrect.

3. The Brady/MMM/VPC combine *are* useful where they are. For us!
The current idiots running what's left of the gun control lobby are helping us dismantle gun control.

They help suck up any monies and energy that might go to others who might actually be competent at lobbying or passing legislation.

They've been Mc Governized, and they still don't realize it....

5. In Texas, many state parks are open to hunting at certain times...
Otherwise, you can visit the parks and carry-concealed if properly permitted. I have hunted Fort Boggy State Park and Inks Lake State Park, as well as the Balcones Canyonlands National Wilflife Refuge where deer and pig hunting is permitted in order to keep herd numbers down so young oak trees are not nipped in the bud (if you don't protect these oaks, you won't realize the problem for at least a hundred years).

Huge crime rates. Interrupt my mid-day naps atop wind-swept hills. like wow.

6. Leonard Embody is a complete loon, one who's looking to provoke
a legal battle with the state so he can cash in and claim the "oppressed victim" mantel.

7. Yep..
I know of the gun he was carrying...They are listed as a "pistol" on the Federal forms...It has no buttstock, (or a folder pinned shut) and a very short barrel..

Most are of the Krinkov style. Like this one (with the folding stock extended)
