2. Backpedalling on the story now

The Northern Territory Police are backpedalling furiously on this story now and the senior officer who gave the interview to the journalist is claiming he was misrepresented. Don't know if there is any truth in it. However hyperbole about disarmed subjects and criminals being armed with military weapons is far from the truth. I am surprised that the crap from "Ed Chenel" might actually be given some credence in this forum.

3. Far from the truth?

Forget the movies. Check the police blotters concerning gang and drug related violence. True AW's show up far more often than some might think.

There is nothing a totalitarian government likes better than a disarmed citizenry, or in the case of some governments, a disarmed target group. (pun intended)

Look at the history of the 20th century in the old USSR and eastern Europe or the German gun control law of 1938 that required all Jews to surrender all weapons and ammunition and made it illegal for them to own either. (As I recall it was 1938)

on edit: IT's logical for the backpedal whether the story is true or not. Either way, it's a serious black eye - especially so for the gun control advocates. It has to be disturbing for them when the opposition's predictions come true - as they do on a regular basis throughout the world.
