NRA may shoot down Republican dreams to win back House
As the Democratic Party struggles to find an electoral path which will enable it to avoid losing control of the House of Representatives in November, one surprising source of hope is the National Rifle Association.

Although generally seen as a close ally of the Republicans, the group is actually willing to support any candidate who favors gun rights. According to the Washington Post, the NRA "has endorsed 58 incumbent House Democrats, including more than a dozen in seats that both parties view as critical to winning a majority."

An interesting development, indeed.

2. The NRA has endorsed 58 incumbent House Democrats ...

Pro-gun Democrats win endorsements from NRA
Thursday, October 7, 2010

Not a lot of things have gone the Democrats' way this year, but dozens of their House candidates are getting a late boost from an unusual source: the National Rifle Association.

So far this year, the NRA has endorsed 58 incumbent House Democrats, including more than a dozen in seats that both parties view as critical to winning a majority.

The endorsements aren't the result of a sudden love for a party with which the NRA is often at odds. Rather, the powerful group adheres to what it calls "an incumbent-friendly" policy, which holds that if two candidates are equally supportive of gun rights, the incumbent gets the nod.

***snip***

Overall, the NRA has endorsed many more House Republican incumbents than Democrats, and the cash has followed. The group's political action committee has doled out $350,000 this election cycle to Republicans and $170,000 to Democrats, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

3. Again... UNPOSSIBLE!!!!
Let's see... The NRA is *Deep Breath*, a racist, tea-bagging front for the GOP that does not believe nor support any of the core values of the Democratic party, and who will at any given moment support a Republican or Tea Party member over any and all Democrats regardless of their 2nd Amendment views at any and every turn, to insure that we have nothing but a rich, white, right-wing party in power, who will do nothing but support the gun manufacturers and their money hungry grab on the weak minded rednecks of the United States who wish nothing more than the extermination of all non-whites, left-wing, tree-hugging communists who wish to usurp the Republican fronted NRA who uses scare tactics in their race to insure that their one-issue organization does nothing but put guns in the hands of children and minorities in the hopes that they will kill each other off making a pure, white, Republican America, just like God intended.

Or something to that effect.

5. I think our chances are much better than in 1994.
Thanks to gun-owner support, I don't think the Republicans are going to sweep Congress like they did in 1994 due to Democrats supporting gun controls like the "Assault Weapon" ban.

6. Actually, reinstating the "assault weapons" ban is still

part of the Democratic Party platform. If the Repugs wanted to trumpet that fact, there's nothing stopping them.

It boggles the mind that our Dem leaders STILL haven't bothered to honestly research this issue.

7. The backlash if the leadership tries to reinstate the "assault weapons" ban ...
would haunt the party for years.

Our party would do much better to admit that the issue is a "dead horse" and beating it will accomplish nothing.

We need to concentrate on important issues where we can make a difference. A quick glance at this map shows how popular firearms and the right to carry are in this nation.

We can leave the Republicans with their "dead horse" issue, their opposition to abortion. We can move on and eventually many gun owners will realize that Democrats will represent their views far more than the Republicans they currently support because of the gun control issue.

9. I know one of the guys who participates in the national platform process
He knows I am a Second Amendment advocate, and he sometimes shows me drafts and proposed revisions of the national platform. We don't discuss the gun issue that often because we both have other irons in the fire as far as the platform goes, but I do take whatever steps I can to let the platform committee know that I and other pro-RKBA Dems want the "assault weapon" ban erased from the platform forever.

8. The NRA needs to stick to only one issue
Unless another issue effects them such as keeping their membership private.

But if they have republicans and democrats compete with each other they will win this debate and the gun control advocates will become a loud but powerless fringe group

14. It's Gore's fault he supported restricting handguns!
If he wasn't so gung-ho on gun controls, he might not have LOST HIS OWN STATE.

Gun control is a losing issue, why can't you understand that?

13. Well...
we could certainly use at least one more pro-RKBA justice on the SCOTUS should a vacancy occur (hopefully... one of the two remaining Heller dissenters).
