Whoops, they did it again. ( I must be shopping at the wrong gun shops)
According to this msnbc news story aired tonight the Mexican drug war is being fueled by .50 caliber machine guns readily available over the counter in American gun stores.

Apparently, I'm shopping at the wrong stores

New shop will be GUNS. Yeah, we need more - we already have a Pawn & Gun store and just a gun store, so stands to reason we need another one.

The point of this thread is that the (anti gun) media blatantly lied in their story.

6. I don't know because I've never been in a gun store.
The closest I've been to a gun was when a guy stuck one in my ribs and robbed me of my wedding ring. I'm grateful I gave it up and he didn't shoot.

Sorry I went off the point of your post. :hi: Had a rough day and I'm on my second Corona ;)

17. You can at the one I use.
They are a Class III dealer and can get you about anything you want if you do the proper paperwork and have tons of money. NFA regulations pretty much keep out the riff raff.

There are people in this country who would rely on fanning the flames of hysteria and ignorance to further their goal of taking away my Constitutional Rights. That article was a good example of that.

32. In your entire town...
you only have one gun shop and a pawn & gun? Where are you from? How large is your town? It's an interesting cultural divide. Just in east Tulsa, there are at least four just-gun stores, a couple hunting supply stores, and almost every pawn shop(except this one weird chain, EZ-Pawn) deals with guns. Add Walmart and general sporting goods stores, and you're seldom more than five minutes away from a licensed gun dealer.

Pathetic!

No wonder U.S. citizens are so hopelessly ignorant of the facts, and why insane gun "control" legislation gets passed.

...about Mexican drug war violence.

Look at the thumbnails just to the left of the main screen. Scroll down until you see some solders and a title that makes sense.

The OP is perfectly correct. The piece literally makes reference to 50-caliber machine guns being available "over the counter" in the US. And pipoman is correct that there is no straightforward way to provide feedback.

It's really appalling, but people who are too lazy to try to figure out where the content on a very active news site has rolled to are probably too lazy to care about the quality of journalism, much less comment on it.

(P.S. I don't mean to impugn pipoman, just pointing out how to find the content.)

24. Although there is no doubt that they are effective
The rounds cost something like a dollar each minimum and at the rate the M2 spits them out, you are looking at a lot of cash where a dirt cheap 7.62 x 39 round would suffice. Its really a long range sniper round or an anti-material round. If the zombies start driving around in trucks you can crack the engine block.

25. There is THAT!
:hi:
We are gun owners, and regular shooters.
Everyone is around here (Ouachita Mountains, Arkansas).
Every home/cabin has at least a shotgun, a deer rifle, a .22, and a hand gun...minimum.
They are necessary tools.
We protect ourselves, our pets, stock, and produce gardens from varmints and predators.

I really would love to spend about 5 minutes with a .50 MG.
That would be fun,
but don't need one to handle the occasional rabid skunk, coon in the chicken coop, or coyote...
that is unless the truck driving Zombies attack. :scared:

"Every home/cabin has at least a shotgun, a deer rifle, a .22, and a hand gun...minimum.
I mean that the 22 IS the deer rifle, isn't it?

A full auto .50 cal would make a nice companion piece for my AR-50 bolt gun.

28. No.
The .22 is for small varmints, and the tool we use the most often for protecting our pets, chickens and gardens. We prefer to use Live Traps and relocate, but sometimes that is not possible.

The 30-30 is for deer/larger game, and for letting visitors target shoot out in back of the cabin.
THAT is a "neighborly" thing to do, and wins respect and approval from some of the people who have lived out here for generations. It is a gesture of friendship and ritual bonding among males. It is also a test. If you are visiting up here with the locals, and someone offers to let you shoot their Deer Rifle, do NOT turn it down. You WILL be judged on how you handle this rifle. Be respectful, safe, humble, complimentary, and thankful.

I don't deer hunt because we currently don't need the meat, and I feel no need to kill one of these lovely animals. They ARE a nuisance pest (eat the apples and peaches off our trees, gobble up roses and other flowers) and they are overpopulated, but they ARE beautiful. We currently run them out of the yard with air horns, but it is always good to have the skills, and a comfortable relationship with the tool if using it becomes necessary.

The 12ga is for birds and general purpose depending on the intended use.
We keep everything from Bear Balls (Deer Slugs) to 7-1/2 on hand.
A skunk (coon/possum/coyote/ feral dog/cat) behaving strangely in broad daylight needs to be put down quickly with no mistakes.
The 12ga with either 00 or #4 is what we usually use for this if within 50 yards.
....No mistakes.

The Hand Gun (.357) is for hiking in Bear Country (Lots of Black Bears in the Ouachita Mtns, Arkansas),
and making a lot of noise when I feel like it.
Going into Bear Country without at least a magnum handgun is not smart.
No matter WHAT others may say, bears DO eat people, and then shit out the little bells.

I would like to have one more handgun (22 pistol) to use INSIDE the chicken coop.
We lock our chickens up in a Fort Knox coop at sunset, but a couple of times possums/coon have been waiting inside BEFORE full dark. They won't come out just by asking nicely.
The only way (safe for us and our chickens) is to shoot them.
The long barrels are way too awkward in that confined space, and the .357 is overkill.

One time a skunk ran into the coop just as I was going to lock it up at sunset.
THAT was a nightmare. I used the 12 ga inside the coop because I didn't want the skunk to have the chance to spray. The chickens were really upset for days, and my ears are still ringing.
The skunk was killed instantly, but that spot stunk for a month.

Different tools for different purposes.
To me, 4 seems to be the absolute minimum.

that allows deer hunting with a .22. You could accomplish it, with very good shot placement, but you'd probably have to follow the poor thing miles through the woods before it bleed out.

33. Depends on the situation...
Remember, we are talking zombies. So IED's might not do the trick. Sure you may get lucky and blow the shit out of a few, but the last thing you want to do is accidentally set a zombie on fire. It just pisses them off and they run around setting anything they get close to on fire.

My recommended zombie plan and load-out, remembering that body shots never seem to do the trick. Head-shots and decapitations are the way to go.

1. Remington .308 for anything above 400 meters or until I'm out of ammunition.
2. SCAR for anything from 25 to 400 meters or until I'm out of ammo.
3. Glock 34. I know it is a 9mm, but we are talking head-shots here, and I can follow up much faster with my 34 than I can with a 1911 .45. Not to mention that even with the 33 round mag it is still quite accurate(although effing heavy). This is for anything from 7 to 25 meters or until I have no more rounds.
4. A Benelli or Mossberg would be nice. This is for the up close and personal. I would be at about 7.25 on the sphincter pucker scale at this point.
5. A polearm(I don't have one yet), preferably a Monk's spade. Good for longer distance decapitations
6. A Machete. By this point I would be in some trouble, but still an effective weapon.
7. Trench knife(preferably one with a long skinny blade) for poking through skulls and scrambling brains. At this point I would be pissing myself.
8. My .38, 4 rounds for the zombies, last round is for me.

On his website as a candidate, through the transition and which only quietly disappeared from whitehouse.gov a few months ago.

http://obama.3cdn.net/84b2062fc4a5114715_ftxamv9ot.pdf

"As a long-time resident and elected official of Chicago, Barack Obama has seen the impact of fully automatic weapons in the hands of criminals. Thus, Senator Obama supports making permanent the expired federal Assault Weapon Ban."

Read that again, "FULLY AUTOMATIC WEAPONS in the hands of criminals" are a problem he proposes to solve by banning guns that are not fully automatic and not in the hands of criminals.

Again, how much more directly or more plainly can he say he wants to reinstate a ban on semiautomatic weapons by implying they are machine guns?

There can only be two explanations for making that statement. It was a deliberate attempt to deceive people who don't know the difference. Or he doesn't know the difference himself. Deceit or dumb-ass, take your pick!

That anyone who has always been anti-gun is totally ignorant of firearms technology is unremarkable. That they might make a technical mistake ONCE is excusable. After they have been shown the difference, they still persist in deliberately conflating machine guns with semi-autos they are just flat fucking liars!
