What a difference a decade can bring!
From 1999...

Gun litigation follows example of tobacco cases

Now that states have taken on the powerful tobacco industry and won, cities are trying to follow their example and sue gun manufacturers.

Gun makers are in the sights of more than 20 cities and counties that have legislation pending to try to recoup the cost of violence caused by firearms.

An impenetrable type of industry can in fact be penetrated, if you have good legal arguments. I think thats what the tobacco lawsuit brought to this case, said Miami Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas, who filed suit against the gun industry earlier this year.

Now from a few hours ago..

Washington Post editorial

Gun rights advocates have created a cottage industry out of suing to overturn the gun-control laws of states and localities – and with real success, including suits against the District of Columbia and Chicago that have led to landmark Supreme Court rulings

Well they are the ones who started suing every one... They sowed the seeds now they can taste the fruit.

1. I believe people woke up to the fact that further gun control for honest people ...
does little to solve the criminal and gang violence problem.

They also realize that suing gun manufacturers to drive them out of business or to increase the cost of firearms so high as to limit their sales only to the rich is not the way to go.

3. The Peruta ruling is due any day now.

Perhaps that will be another one to put in the W column.

6. Well, when they were doing it to the gun manufacturers it was ...
.. like in the Blues Brothers, they were on a "Mission from God". It was a good and "holy" thing.

Now that the tables have been turned and the cities that espouse complete gun bans are getting the crap kicked out of them in court, it's a dirty little cottage industry by a handful of trouble makers that obviously don't understand what's best for them and the rest of the peasantry.
