2. Oh Goodie! Another "Guns in the News" poster
Is this the 6th or 7th poster (or 23rd?) to decide that posting a series of pointless stories that involve guns, either directly or peripherally via crimes, accidents etc., will somehow magically further their cause and change minds and hearts of a majority of the citizens to support gun control?

Since the last couple of attempts we've had some states go from permits to constitutional carry, violent crime has hit a 35 year low and we've had three years of record gun and ammunition sales. Wisconsin is about to get CCW, Obama signed several pro gun bills, the Brady Bunch stopped any pretense of having actual members and the NRA membership hit 4.5 million+ dues paying members. We've won Heller v DC and McDonald v. Chicago in SCOTUS. Hell even little Richie Daley has finally given up and is quitting.

Keep up the good work. By the time this one gives up and tears his hair out, we may have the 1934 class III restrictions repealed.

Clear and convincing evidence that guns and ammo are a menace.

And should vigorously be discouraged from proliferating.

...and realize that inanimate objects cannot be "discouraged" from anything.

Or maybe you don't.

6. Holy Cow this is bad....we need more gun laws.
In other news what are you looking for this weekend at the funshow?

I bought a new generator last night so that blew my gun budget, but I think a few magazines for my AR's and a new grip are in order.

I'd like to find some Aguila 22LR but I doubt that's possible.

My daughter (8) want's a pink 22 so we may look for one.

My wife won't carry a handgun so I think we're gonna invest in a kimber pepper blaster for her.

My 6yo son well there's nothing he doesn't want...

11. That was my point
They were all posted by gun people to show how guns save lives. One even by someone complaining about how the originals post mean nothing. I was pointing out it is another case of the pot calling the kettle black or what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Sorry I left out the :sarcasm: thing. All were titles of recent post on this forum. All were anecdotal stories about guns saving someone. I thing there are really more stories of guns killing innocent people. However, the zealots never take the big picture in, on either side.

16. True, but posting anecdotes can serve a purpose perhaps not intended by the poster
Specifically, the responses of the reader can be rather revealing, and say more about the reader than the events in the anecdote.

Who discusses rationally? Who (to put it bluntly) acts out? Who takes anecdotes as 'proof' of whatever theory it is that they

are peddling?

19. Anecdotal evidence can serve a legitimate purpose, namely to disprove a rule
A rule, in this case, meaning any statement that claims that something always happens, or never happens. For example, if someone claims that "all swans are white" or "swans are never black," all it takes is one black swan to prove that person wrong. Anecdotal evidence is useless for telling how often something happens, but it does tell you whether that something does or does not happen at all (e.g. that one black swan doesn't tell you what percentage of swans of swans are black, but it does tell you it's not zero).

And that's the difference between the "guns used to do harm" postings on the one hand and the "guns used to avert harm" on the other: none of the pro-RKBA "usual suspects" denies that guns are sometimes used to commit violent crimes, so evidence that they sometimes are doesn't prove the pro-RKBA crowd wrong. By contrast, the "guns used to avert harm" postings do effectively counter arguments along the lines of "guns are only good for killing" and "nobody needs to carry a gun in public, and even if the need did arise, they'd never manage to use it effectively." Note the underlined words indicate absolutisms.

21. Hypothetically?
Hypothetically and anecdotally speaking, the moment the guy raises the gun from the barrel-down position at his side is the moment I would start shooting and keep shooting until he stopped moving. Hypothetically.
