Man Carrying Concealed drops gun and shoots Kingwood woman.
This Idiot needs to go to jail for a while......

http://ourtribune.com/article.php?id=11399

A man with a concealed handgun license accidentally dropped his Derringer pistol in a Kingwood restaurant Thursday evening, the gun discharged and the bullet hit a 71-year old woman in her lower hip, according to the Houston Police Department.

The unintentional gunshot occurred around 8:30 p.m. at Raffa’s restaurant in Kings Harbor.

According to an HPD spokesman, the 66-year old male was inside of the restaurant having dinner with a friend when, after a motion of his jacket, the pistol accidentally fell out of his jacket pocket, hit the ground and discharged.

The woman was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital by ambulance and is in stable condition, police reported.

“At this time it appears no charges are going to be filed,” said the spokesman.

3. Stable condition.
Different than dead.

Controlling popular stuff like guns or drugs really doesn't work at all.

Better to just cross your fingers, avoid bad karma, and hope for the best.

Global warming is a bigger threat by far.

In most cases.

Prohibited or even controlled......not so much. (See "Drug Wars")

Horse is kinda' out of the barn on this one. Sorry to tell you the bad news.

I'm not sticking up for a moron who hasn't a clue on how to handle a weapon. I once had a friend pull out a derringer to show it to me, but unfortunately he was pointing it in my direction. I instinctively grabbed the thing and tossed it off the deck of a bar, and it landed 2 stories down and broke into many pieces. He claimed I owed him a pistol. I told him to get fucked.

Keep in mind that we will be needing to be armed during the upcoming 2nd US Civil War. Do you want the fascist tea-baggers and rethug traitors to have all the weapons?

I don't! :smoke:

9. Was in that restaurant 3 weeks ago.
There are families that go there, and in fact there was a family sitting right behind the booth where this woman was shot. What happens to a gun owner who accidentally through negligence like this shoots and kills an innocent person? Would they be charged with negligent homicide? Or do they just get a slap on the hand like this fool did. Too bad they didn't release this big, tough cowboy's name, I would probably recognize it. Also heard, that the woman suffered more than just a wound in her hip, that it went into her abdomen and could have been much worse. Most restaurants that serve alcohol down here have signs in their windows saying concealed weapons are not allowed. Now this restaurant could possible lose their liquor license and negatively affect their business. I say sue the motherfucker. A two shot derringer with no safety and a round in the chamber - just what every fool needs.

16. just a quick reply on this
"A two shot derringer with no safety and a round in the chamber - just what every fool needs."

Actually its a two shot derringer with two rounds in the chamber. They are either loaded and chambered or unloaded. Many guns also dont have safeties, other than the fact that most modern guns wont go off if dropped. The trigger must be pulled. But yes, this guy was a dumbass

24. If an establishment gets more than 51%
of it's income from alcohol sales it is illegal to carry a gun in the establishment. If it is less than 51% then it is ok.

18. The same thing ALMOST happened to me once............
A former boss had a .380 with a chambered round in his desk drawer. He slammed the drawer shut and it discharged passing between myself and a co-worker. We were sitting down and it would probably have hit one of us in the hip, thigh, or knee if it had been just SLIGHTLY aimed differently.

I did jump his ass publically for keeping that round chambered in an automatic. I've been around guns all my life (southern boy here) and I've ALWAYS heard that automatics will go off with a sneeze, so NEVER chamber a round unless you're ready to fire that weapon. It only takes about a fifth of a second to chamber a round and just the SOUND of a round being chambered might be enough to defuse a lethal situation.

I look at guns kind of like the atomic bomb. The genie is out of the bottle now, BUT that doesn't mean I don't want nuclear arms reduction talks to stop. As long as the Brown Shirts are talking about killing liberals/socialists and are armed to the teeth, THIS socialist wants something for self defense. In close, I'm OK with my fighting skills (even if I am old), but when you get a little distant from me, I want some sort of equalizer.

21. Majority of modern semi-autos will not go off if one in chamber
with a sneeze, when dropped, drawer slammed, etc.

In a holster there is no danger of carrying a modern semi-auto with one in chamber.

Personally I wouldn't store any semi-auto with one chambered outside a holster or a gun vault. I just don't trust Murphy's law that something doesn't hit the trigger or in the rare event there is a manufacturing defect.

IMHO your boss was a dumbass on this one.

23. Sounds like an older .380 or a defective one ...
Ruger has a recall on its .380 LCP.

Ruger has received a small number of reports from the field indicating that LCP pistols can discharge when dropped onto a hard surface with a round in the chamber. We are firmly committed to safety and would like to retrofit all older LCP Pistols. The retrofit involves installation of an upgraded hammer mechanism at no charge to the customer.
http://www.ruger.com/LCPRecall/index.html

I have also heard of this happening to an older Colt .45.

In 1983 Colt made an even more drastic change to their 1911 line. Out of concerns for product liability, all of Colt's 1911-type pistols were redesigned internally with a new firing pin safety system. The new setup involved a small plunger located inside the slide to block the firing pin against movement, thus preventing the pistol from discharging accidentally should the pistol be dropped or hit hard while fully loaded with a round in the chamber. Two small sheet-metal levers working alongside the trigger pushed aside the plunger, which would then free up the firing pin to fire the weapon once the trigger had been deliberately depressed. The new pistols were all re-designated Series 80 models, and they replaced all of the older Series 70 models in Colt's lineup.

Don't know where you've been and heard that "automatics will go off this a sneeze" but that's just not the case.
