Will Obama mention gun control in his State of the Union?
Will Obama mention gun control in his State of the Union?

“There’s a major push to get to say something on this,” said Chad Ramsey, legislative director of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a leading gun control group. “We’ve been told he will say something, but we’re not sure how strong it will be.”

http://openchannel.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/01/19/5878586-will-obama-mention-gun-control-in-his-state-of-the-union

Time to start making noise, sending emails and letters, and making phone calls.

Tell those that represent your voice "no further gun control."

There is nothing quite so therapeutic, as watching a person in a rubber monster suit smash intricately built miniature cities, know what I'm saying?

16. I have been a fan...
I have been a fan since I was barely old enough to walk.

I like all scifi monster movies, but godzilla stands - as they say "king" of them all.

I own all the godilla movies, and love them.

I can't wait for legendary pictures remake of the original coming out next year.

3. If he does and mentions another gun ban expect to have bare shelves ...
in every gun store.

Obama has been the greatest gun salesman of all time and he hasn't really done a single thing to promote draconian gun control.

13. Do you really want to see another Republican shellacking in 2012?
Gun control is a losing issue especially if it involves bans or prohibitions.

Trying to get another Assault Weapons Ban would guarantee the Republicans would own the Congress and the Presidency.

5. I hear he's going to announce a new initiative banning the manufacture, sale, and ownership of guns.
Better run out and start stockpiling for when he comes to take your guns away! :eyes:

18. McCarthy has introduced a bill to ban the standard factory magazines
Edited on Sat Jan-22-11 08:17 PM by benEzra
for many of the most popular civilian firearms in the United States, and she deleted the original's burden-of-proof requirement so that the onus this time would be on all ~40 million owners to prove their magazines are preban. If you can't prove it, you could get 10 years in prison.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h112-308

Oh, the capacity limit she chose is so low that it outlaws replicas of civilian guns from the 1860's.

And unlike the 1994 law, this ban wouldn't exempt Civil War replicas.

19. I don't think Congressional Dems are stupid. I don't see this bill going anywhere.
But if it does, then stockpiling spares would be rational, because this law would go far beyond the 1994 non-ban.

14. Any statement he makes IMO will have anti-RKBA undertones which Brady&VPC will tout as new efforts
to ban firearms.

If that happens and Obama does not deliver in this congress, which he cannot do, it will cost him more votes than he gains, net effect would be lost votes.

I doubt any speech he reads from a teleprompter can save him on this divisive, polarizing issue.

27. Sure he will...
then he'll make a couple of quotes from the Koran, express his undying love and admiration for Joseph Stalin, and finish it off with a rousing rendition of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot". After that he'll declare himself Emperor of the Known Human Universe and demand that John Boehner bow and welcome his new Overlord. Boehner will tearfully submit and we'll embark on a new Pax Obama. Pigs will also fly.

His approval is on the way up. Crime isn't the burning issue of the day. The last thing he needs to do is to toss that credibility on the trash heap to appease both the extreme left of his own party and the Republicans over at Brady. He'd better stick to the economy, and defending his health care package.
