Prepair for gun, ammo, and accessory shortage: Obama planning dedicated Gun Control address
Edited on Tue Jan-25-11 09:52 PM by Pullo
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/chris-matthews-breaks-news-obama-planning-later-speech-to-tackle-gun-control/">Presidential Gun Control Address on the way ......

Chris Matthews of MSNBC is so far the only one reporting this. Don't always like Matthews but he sounded sincere to me.

Any push for increased restrictions by the president will rekindle the rush on firearms and supplies.

1. People have been obsessing on Obama's intention to control their guns since the moment
he started running for office. Has there ever been any actual evidence that he plans to do any such thing? I don't count pundit gossip.

9. The midterms are over, and there are less Democratic seats in pro-2A districts
So there's less at risk politically for him, possibly

21. Anything he says will be repeated again and again
During the 2012 campaign. It would be an exceptionally unwise move for him to make.

27. Just in case....
Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

5. there was, it slacked off about a year ago
ammo was hitting the shelves and certain rifles were getting common to see on a wall again in the gun shop.

Looks like that may change yet again.

22. It's only been a couple of months here
I'm finally starting to see a few boxes of .45 FMJ on the shelves. It's been two years since even 45 target ammunition was available locally.

26. its always "them"
wish I knew who "they" were. Maybe they will sell me some ammo! Its fairly stable here. Some things are still a bit pricey like 45acp, but for the most part everything is on the shelves. Now reloading supplies... forget it.

29. So Democrats come on boards like this all the time...
and talk about how guns and ammo are evil and people should not be allowed to have them, then when people say that Democrats want to take away guns and ammo it is the "fears of the stupid?"

34. You know why gun owners have a bad image?
Because they refuse to take the responsibility of gun ownership seriously.

The simple fact is that guns are designed to kill. Nothing else. Now, a lot of people like to play with things that can kill. But for the most part those enthusiasts go out of their way to ensure their activities are safe above everything else.

Not so with gun owners. Any minor suggestion to make guns even a little safer - requiring licensing & registration, limiting to size and number an individual has, even requiring training - is fought against, led by RW organizations like the NRA. And gun owners allow themselves to be led - to the detriment of everyone else.

And to be even more blunt- the gun Prohis are the ones who want a zero-sum game, and a zero-sum game is what they are getting. Cite

to evidence:

"Gun control supporters always want a compromise. Ok. Here's your chance to show it."

And the gun owners are winning.

Why should they value the opinion of someone who issues whoppers like:

Any minor suggestion to make guns even a little safer - requiring licensing & registration, limiting to size and number an individual has, even requiring training - is fought against, led by RW organizations like the NRA

Since the NRA supported the creation of the NICS, this is patently untrue.

Always with the denial and historical revisionism...

ZOMFGTHEBIGBADNRA!

4 million members in the NRA vs 80 million gunowners in this country, do the math, that's 74 million non-NRA members.

The NRA is leading who?

Unless its that other RW group - the Tea Party.

13. I watched the video. In it...
Rachel says "the idea that it is a third rail and can't be discussed; those are old politics".

Disconnect. Shes ignoring political reality.

O'Donnel says "we should consider restoring the ban on magazine clips that allowed jared loughner to do what he did".

He does not seem to know what the ban he thinks should be restored actually did.

Tweety mentions "guns are it" in places like western pennsylvania. Hes right, but I don't think he understands the scope of it. The magnitude of it.

I predict:

If he has a dedicated Gun Control address, gun and ammunition sales will skyrocket.

If he has one and doesn't handle it well, he'll be a one term president unless the other side fields a candidate that doesn't resonate well with voters, in a complete and total sense.

even if mccarthys bill started to move do they really think it would sail through "clean". If they think that they are delusional. I garuntee it, if this bill starts to move, congress will attach to it a CCW reciprocity amendment along with a D.C. gun rights amendment.

"congress will attach to it a CCW reciprocity amendment along with a D.C. gun rights amendment."

Attatch to it a repeal of the NFA of '34 and the GCA of '68 as well.

Make damn sure it goes nowhere.

31. People use terms like "magazine clips" and I am supposed to accept their policy positions on the
topic?

Oy.

Also, "guns are it" everywhere in PA except Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. I suspect the "clingers" comment made during the campaign cost Obama A LOT of mid-state votes. Why do I suspect this. I don't have any data, but local talk about him sure changed after that one. The Prez has a choice on this one, do it again (say something stupid and insulting), or keep his mouth shut, or pursue actual violence reduction policies.

Hopefully he is as smart as everyone says he is and goes for door number 3.

16. President Obama = Lucy, Gun controllers = Charlie Brown, stricter gun control = football

On one hand, when the President campaigns on promising to renew the Assault Weapons Ban, I think it is prudent to take that promise seriously.

On the other hand, the President doesn't seem to want to pursue his promises.

20. Matthews was at WH luncheon
WASHINGTON (CNN) - It was the worst kept secret at the White House Tuesday. When you're Wolf Blitzer and Brian Williams, it's hard to hide when you drop by the White House that is already swarming with reporters. President Obama hosted a hush-hush lunch with television anchors to spin them before he delivered his State of the Union speech.

-----

Our seating chart of the lunch is based on reports in the room. Seated L-R, beginning with the person seated to the president's left: Maria Elena Salinas of Univision; NPR's Renee Montagne; White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer; MSNBC's Chris Matthews; White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod; CNN's Wolf Blitzer; Jim Lehrer of PBS; White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs; CBS' Katie Couric; ABC's George Stephanopoulos; FOX News' Shepard Smith; White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett; CNN Espanol's Juan Carlos Lopez; FOX News' Brett Baier; White House Chief of Staff William Daley; CNN's John King; Telemundo's Jose Diaz-Balart; White House Senior Adviser David Plouffe; ABC's Diane Sawyer; and NBC's Brian Williams.

http://whitehouse.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/25/who-scored-the-best-seats-at-lunch-with-obama/

Maybe it was said at the luncheon. IMHO Obama needs to steer clear of this if he wants to win back WH & have a Democratic congress in 2012.

an incredible gross ignorance bordering on stupidity.

If GLBT activists representing perhaps 4% of voters can succeed with their agenda, presidential candidates should proceed cautiously before attacking perhaps 65% of voters who support RKBA.
