Prefect example of a defensive gun use
http://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/f8t0m/this_is_the_true_story_of_what_happened_to_me/

"But I can tell you this: if it weren't for my gun I would have gotten the ass beating of a lifetime that day. Maybe I handle the first guy, but no way I handle 3 of them, one with a baseball bat. My gun saved my ass that day. It may have even saved my life."

And this event will likely never show up in any statistical report, as it was never reported.

1. There are a number of problematic aspects of this story.
I'm sure there are others but the main one is that the man drew and aimed his weapon and did not contact the police to report that he did so. If the alleged attackers contacted the police first then he could be in an extremely poor position at trial.

And that's assuming this all happened in the first place. Which I'm not so sure of. Having read Snopes for more than a few years, some things jump out as being an atypical account. His holistic awareness of all the other drivers in each of the lanes. His knowledge that the 3 men in the truck were "Mexican". And his ability to recount with a high level of accuracy where each of these "Mexicans" were during the altercation, and how they responded to drawing his firearm. And last but not least the way the story is told, which is to say, as a story.

And during the portion of the story where he draws his gun, that's where in reality people would be honking, desperately trying to pull out of traffic to get away or getting out of their cars and running the fuck away. Not to mention the people calling the police on their cell phones, etc. I have been in situations where someone has just shouted that a gun was involved in an altercation nearby and I have not seen so many people turn around and beat it in the other direction.

This reads like gun porn. Toned down from what I typically see, to be sure, but gun porn all the same.

4. Watch "Cops" sometime. They draw on a driver and cars slow down so they can
see what's happening. NO ONE is desperately trying to pull out of traffic to get away.

2. Nothing about this tale rings true to me after the honking horn.
I do believe the bit about it never showing up in the stats because it wasn't reported to authorities because it never freaking happened.

3. Did I ever tell you about
how I, single handedly disarmed three armed attackers with my Kung-Fool?

That guy was a puss.
