David Plouffe Confirms Obama Will Address Gun Control At A Later Date
Edited on Wed Jan-26-11 01:55 PM by virginia mountainman
Plouffe suggested that the State of the Union address needed to focus on the economy, however soon the President will tackle the gun issue. He did mention that the President supports reinstating the ban on assault weapons, but gave no further indication if any other gun control measures might be sought. “It’s a very important issue and I know there’s going to be a lot of debate on the Hill,” Plouffe predicted.

This was broadcast nationwide.... Not just in New York, Illinois and California where Gun Control is a religion...It was broadcast to the nation, where gun control is extremely unpopular....

The gun makers should send them a check...Sales will go thru the roof...

As Beevul posted earlier, they are kicking a bee's nest..

It took us 15 years to mostly shed the "gun grabber" image, now in a few short weeks, we will have it back, and be radioactive in the vast majority of the US. Many voters where wary of Obama just because of this. They took a chance and voted for him. If Gun Control becomes "hotly debated" you can bet in THEIR WORDS...

"Won't be fooled by those gun grabbers again..."

Do we want to be a REGIONAL party?? Holding ONLY the North East, Illinois and California????

That is the path it sounds like we are about to take, even if nothing gets passed, the fight to pass it, will severely weaken us for years, if not DECADES like the gun control efforts in the early 1990's.

Let me remind you that Bush-co, would have never happened if it was not for Gun Control...

4. It scares the crap outta me that the Democratic Party might again push the issue ...
... but I think it might be possible to pursue the issue from the perspective of mental health and access to guns. Push for more mental health services, via an expansion of HCR, and perhaps in the end skirt the gun issue altogether.

5. +1 Fully fund the NICS, and improve reporting of DQ'd persons.
Prosecute those who falsely fill out form 4473.

This can all be done to help keep guns away from the people that shouldn't have them, without infringing on the law-abiding.

If the Prez is as smart as I think he is, he'll go that route.

7. If he did, he might gain votes from gun owners ...
these are simple effective ideas that work as opposed to the typical "feel good" laws that Democrats usually propose. Banning hi-cap magazines and limiting the sale of future magazines to 10 rounds will only drive voters to the polls to vote out Democrats.

The magazine ban issue will be viewed and publicized as an incremental step to banning the ownership of all semi-auto firearms. In reality, it may not be but gun owners will perceive it as such. Democrats will take the blame and we will once again have shot ourselves in the foot.

8. Yeah David, right after they close Gitmo
How's that Gitmo closing going?

I'm sorry but I'm getting tired of listening to "spokespeople" telling us what they are going to do or what the President is going to talk about and either nothing happens or he makes a speech and there no follow through.

Usually when he does that it's no big deal and you can write it off to political expediency,... but if he makes a speech demanding more gun control or a new AWB, the House will ignore the issue (and the Senate too probably), but it will poison the well for 2012 and beyond and not just at the Federal level. It would be political sophistry of the worst kind and would bite the entire ticket in the ass outside of a few urban centers.
