New Arizona legislation aims to loosen gun laws-inclduding seizing govt property
-----

Senate Bill 1201, sponsored by Sen. Ron Gould, R-Lake Havasu City, would do a number of things, including:

-Allow people to carry firearms into all government-run facilities and many public events. The only places or events that could ban firearms would be those that post the correct sign, provide firearm lockers and have armed security and a metal detector. The law would apply to university classrooms, city buses and community festivals that get government permits. It would not apply to K-12 schools.

-Change the wording of last year’s concealed-weapons law to require an individual to answer “truthfully” when a law-enforcement officer asks whether the person is carrying a concealed weapon. The current wording requires the person to answer “accurately.” Law-enforcement officials say the change could give leeway to a person who, for example, forgets a gun in a bag and inaccurately tells an officer he or she isn’t carrying one.

-Change the wording of Shannon’s Law to make it a crime to “knowingly” discharge a firearm within city limits. It’s currently a crime for someone to discharge a firearm with “criminal negligence.” Bill opponents said the change would mean people could be convicted of violating this law only if the prosecution could prove they knew that shooting the gun could result in someone’s death or injury.

-Allow people to sue if they feel they were illegally stopped from carrying a firearm into a government facility or event. If a person wins the lawsuit and the government agency doesn’t pay within 72 hours, the person has the right to seize as payment “any municipal vehicles used or operated for the benefit of any elected office holder” in the relevant government agency.

1. Good to see them doing the right thing, if they want to ban guns somewhere then they should

Be forced to have the proper security and metal detectors to back it up, and gun lockers so people don't leave guns in their cars

6. I, Sir, am no troll.
I am not a member of the GOP, and I believe your suggestion that many members are such is nothing but flame bait; and trolling in itself.

I approve, except the change from negligent to knowing. I think "criminal negligence" is fine standard for determining the lawfulness of a discharged weapon.

Allowing people to seize .gov property the way the .gov seizes that of the people seems reasonable to me. It eliminates some of the "one rule for me, another for thee."

8. Just like many gun control advocates support union-busting?
Well, one of them, anyway. Of course he's only the mayor of New York City:

Bloomberg wants to return the civil service to the old patronage system
Edited on Thu Jan-13-11 04:57 AM by Hannah Bell

http://chaz11.blogspot.com/2011/01/emperor-mayor-wants-to-bring-back.html

The self-proclaimed Emperor doesn't like the Civil Service System that was established in 1883 which was set up to eliminate favoritism, nepotism, and patronage when hiring, firing, and promoting government employees.

The Mayor4Life selected a hand-picked group of friends and executives to revamp the Civil Service System to bring back the very abuses that was the reason for the Civil Service System in the first place.

This elitist group was called the Workforce Reform Task Force and its mission was to reduce worker protections under the Civil Service system. Mayor Bloomberg did not see fit to include any union leaders in the group and made sure the unions were kept in the dark about the task force and did not know about the report until the New York Times brought attention to it. Predictably, the unions were very upset about not being involved in the process and have formed a united front to stop any of the Bloomberg proposals that require State approval to see the light of day.

One of the major reforms Mayor Bloomberg wants is to eliminate the "last in, first out" requirement for City teachers and changes to the Taylor Law making it easier for the City to use department seniority, rather than total seniority to determine layoffs. This would allow the City to eliminate whole departments rather than have bumping occur. Predictably the union leaders were very negative to the changes led by the Uniformed Firefighters Association President, Steve Cassidy who was disgusted with the secrecy of the task force and said had the union been included in the discussions, maybe common ground could have been found for the union to support some of the 23 recommendations....

82. Bloomberg founded, co-chairs, and finances Mayors Against Illegal Guns

He may not be your champion, but he's arguably the champion of the cause lately.

Mumbles is only along as a make-weight. He has almost no pull outside Route 128:

Message from the Co-Chairs

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg
New York, NY

Mayor Thomas M. Menino
Boston, MA

You were mentioning some sort of associational fallacy?

10. The seizing of property would be so sweet
I wish we could do this for all kinds of government oppression.
