An interseting thing I found out today...
Our oldest daughter was telling me about one of her classes in school.
She was telling me that in her government class, they went through the bill of rights but her teacher skipped completely the second amendment. Now, to be fair, it may be that the second amendment has not been covered yet. If however it turns out to be true that it goes uncovered...

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

1. All sections of the Constitution should be covered
and discussed, if not debated.

2. Do they use the number '2' in arithmetic class?
Maybe the teacher is just innumerate.

3. I'm just surprised
they talked about the fourth, fifth, ninth, and tenth. Or for that matter the eighth, seventh, sixth, third, or first.

4. Maybe They're Gonna Come Back To That One
Since it's such a topic of debate.

5. Guns and school. Maybe the teacher has been "discouraged" from
discussing the 2nd. ...just a thought.

6. My Experience is the same
Schools like to avoid ANY controversy, and the best way is just not address it. I see that happening as to the Second. I also see them avoiding the FULL Implication of the first (What are the limits to Free speech?, what are the limits when you demonstrate i.e. the right to assembly, and your right to associate with people who think like you but NOT like the majority, i.e. Freedom of Religion).

I see them avoiding the right of Privacy (Which is the heart of the Third fourth Amendments). Avoiding the issue of Racial equality (The Civil War Amendments) and avoiding the issue of equal protection under the law.

These are ALL controversial parts of the Constitution and most schools will avoid them and just address the commonly accepted parts of the Constitution.

7. It just seemed odd, I guess...
I just thought it odd that it not be discussed, in a highly pro-gun state like AZ is- and wondered if anyone else thought it odd.

Even in Junior high/Highschool where I went in MN years ago, it was discussed in depth.

Plus, it is a senior class.

8. Why Not Go To The Source???
Call the school on Monday and ask to speak to the teacher? Perhaps he/she was planning to discuss it in depth after the other amendments. Rather than guess his/her intentions, find out for sure.

9. That is a good idea, CO.
Yeah, I should do that. It's all speculation until I do.
