Ohio issued large number of concealed-carry permits in 2010
Edited on Wed Mar-02-11 05:45 PM by RamboLiberal
Ohio issued more than 47,000 new concealed-carry permits last year and renewed 13,000. The 60,000 permits was the second highest in a single year since 2004, Attorney General Mike DeWine reported today.

"Since 2004, nearly a quarter of a million Ohioans have received a concealed carry license. My office remains committed to working with county sheriffs in helping eligible Ohioans exercise their rights under the Concealed Carry Law," DeWine said in a statement released with his annual report.

-----

Statewide, there were 720 permits suspended, 206 revoked and 655 denied in 2010.

Blood must be flowing in the streets of Ohio. Oh the horror! Gee not even 1% had permit revoked, suspended or denied.

1. Those numbers were in spite of institutional resistance by some departments
and other attempts to throw up road blocks to citizens exercising their rights by those in government

2. I wonder how many of them

3. Suspension and revocation rate.
Suspension and revocation rate:

60,000 permits in 2010
720 suspended: 1.2%
206 revoked: .34%
Combined: 1.54%

5. Invalid - try it on the total number of permits in OH
Which is close to 250,000 according to article. Suspended & revoked came out of that pool which makes it < 1%

7. Awesome.
Even better. I missed that, thanks for pointing it out.

250,000 total CCW permits
720 suspended: .29%
206 revoked: .08%
total suspended and/or revoked: .37%

About three-eighths of one percent.

8. I wonder whether revoked is a subset of suspended
http://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/2010CCWReport

Suspended

Under ORC 2923.128, sheriffs must immediately suspend a concealed handgun license upon notification that the licensee has been arrested or charged with certain offenses, or if the licensee is the subject of a protection order issued by a court. The license may be returned to the holder if he or she is found to be not guilty or the charges are dismissed.

Revoked

Also under ORC 2923.128, sheriffs must permanently revoke the license of any person who no longer meets the eligibility requirements to carry a concealed handgun.

There are several reasons that a license may be revoked.

The license holder:
• Moved out of state
• Died
• Decided not to hold the license anymore
• Committed and was convicted of a disqualifying crime
• Became subject to the law’s restrictions on mentally ill people or people considered drug or alcohol dependent

4. So some found another 47,000 insecure folks
and made them believe that 'packing heat' would make the bogeyman go away.
I'm happy they're finding peace within themselves.
Whatever it takes, I say.

6. No 47,000 people who know that the self-defense of they & their families
begins with them and when seconds count you can't count on police coming to the rescue.
