Make no mistake about it - republicans sponsored Maine's proposed no-permit carry law Dems oppose
Edited on Sat Mar-05-11 09:49 AM by jpak
http://www.timesrecord.com/articles/2011/02/23/news/doc4d65406949ea5636854288.txt

<snip>

Among the handful of bills expected to set off the biggest firestorm is legislation sponsored by Rep. Dale Crafts, R-moran-Lisbon, that would — among other changes — repeal the requirement for a permit to carry a concealed weapon in Maine.

<snip>

LD 658, “An Act To Modify the Requirement of a Permit To Carry a Concealed Weapon,” is sponsored by Rep. Dale Crafts, R-moran-Lisbon. Co-sponsors are Sen. Garrett Paul Mason, Rmoran--Lisbon; Rep. Bernard Ayotte, R-moran-Caswell; Rep. Russell Black, R-moran Wilton; Rep. Richard Cebra, R-moran-Naples; Rep. Tyler Clark, R-moran-Easton; Rep. Paul Davis, R-moran-Sangerville; Rep. Kenneth Fredette, R-moran-Newport; Rep. Ralph Sarty Jr., R-moran-Denmark; and Rep. Jeffrey Timberlake, R-moran-Turner.

<snip>

But Sen. Margaret Craven, D-sanity-Lewiston, on Tuesday described Crafts’ bill as “outrageous.” She, too, pointed to the Giffords shooting in Arizona, but used the incident to argue against the legislation.

“I don’t even have enough words to tell you how upset this makes me,” Craven said Tuesday of LD 658. “I think the purpose of carrying a weapon is to intimidate others and (the bill would) make (guns) very, very available to young people — to children — who are just playing with them, who don’t even know the danger of them. In the wake of all that has happened in this country in the last four or five years, and indeed in the last few weeks in Arizona,I don’t know what the big push is to make sure people have weapons, and access to weapons.”

<more>

I know why - the fucking Teabaggers and GOP and NRA want to flood America's streets with GOP/Teabagger concealed gun carriers

yup

Castle doctrine in Florida stops that.

The Castle Doctrine - What Does It Mean?
Blogs » Florida Law

* By J. Patrick Buckley
* Posted January 14, 2011 10:45 AM

To summarize, the Castle Doctrine affects you in three dramatic ways,

1) It creates a legal presumption if someone forcibly enters your home or occupied vehicle, that person is there to hurt or kill you or one of your guests, and you may use defensive force, including deadly force, against this person.

2) You have no duty to retreat. You don't have to turn your back on your attacker, or otherwise appear vulnerable. You are allowed to stand your ground and fight back if you reasonably believe you are in imminent fear of serious bodily injury or death.

3) If you legally defend yourself, you cannot be sued in civil court or prosecuted in criminal court.

West Palm Beach attorney Marc Shiner plans to use a similar defense in
the upcoming trial of William Wilkerson, Jr. , charged with shooting
and killing Jason Payne in November outside a party. Payne had
followed Wilkerson after he got into his car and hit his driver's side
window twice, shattering it.

The case was scheduled to go to trial Monday but was postponed, Shiner
said.

He says he hopes Williamson's case ends like Bissoon's, with the
charges dropped altogether. But he said prosecutors have argued that
Wilkerson had threatened to kill Payne earlier in the party;
therefore, the case did not meet the requirements for self-defense.
Shiner, a former prosecutor, disagrees.

"At that point, he thought his life was in danger," he said "He was
acting within his rights under the law."

138. There are limits to the Holy 2A and that is not a red herring - ex. a ban 30 round magazines
does not infringe on your right to "bear".

Banning guns from Congressional chambers, the Supreme Court & airline cabins does not infringe on "Teh Ba'r" either

Nor does banning teenagers from CCW permits does not infringe Teh Ba'r

146. I did answer it - states with CCW permits regulate the right to bear
States also regulate the how you carry guns in your car

The federal government also regulates what you can "bear" in government buildings and airline cabins

It is not simple question

no matter how hard you want to make it

148. So you agree that 'bear' is part of 'keep and bear'. Bearing is part of the right protected.
Now, since we agree that 'bear' is part of the right, we can talk about what limits are appropriate, and in what fashion.

There are two ways generally to 'bear'- open or concealed.

A locality cannot deny both to an otherwise law-abiding citizen- that would be a denial of their ability to 'bear'.

Agreed? (Let's work our way out one step farther.)

As I have told you before, in the last election, all of my Democratic candidates except one received high marks from the NRA. Three of them were the NRA-endorsed candidate.

The NRA supports any politician who supports the second amendment.

Yes, it is true, unfortunately, that Republicans generally seem to have a higher respect for the second amendment than Democrats do. But there most certainly are pro-second amendment Democrats. I am one, and I vote for them.

71. Your 30-30 is an assault rifle, it can defeat a BPV
your bolt action is snipers rifle, your benelli bird gun is an assault shotgun. I mean looks like that scary thing they use to blow doors of hinges in CQB.

You using a single shot rifle with open sights, else its should be illegal..

This is where the anits path would end given the capability. Thankfully this will not happen. EVER

91. In Vietnam
the common deer rifle was used as a sniper rifle. I know for a fact that is true. Almost any rifle bullet will defeat a BPV, so, in effect, your hunting rifles are considered, by your standards, assault weapons and should be outlawed, so go turn them in.

but it did not really need one to change world history did it?

So you have a problem with a semi auto rifle but dont mind a rifle in 338Lap that can reach out beyond a mile and will defeat body armor. A rifle that group 5 shots at 1.5 inches at the 1000 yard line.

At 1000 yards it has more kinetic energy than a 357mag round at the muzzle.

Maine has gone in the past. We shall see...

State and local politicsSee also: Maine gubernatorial election, 2006; Maine gubernatorial election, 2010; Maine Democratic Party; Maine Green Independent Party; Libertarian Party of Maine; Maine Republican Party; Electoral reform in Maine; Same-sex marriage in Maine
In state general elections, Maine voters tend to accept independent and third-party candidates more frequently than most states. Maine has had two independent governors recently (James B. Longley, 1975–1979 and Angus King, 1995–2003). The Green Party candidate won nine percent of the vote in the 2002 gubernatorial election, more than in any election for a statewide office for that party until the 2006 Illinois gubernatorial election. The locally organized Maine Green Independent Party also elected John Eder to the office of State Representative in the Maine House of Representatives, the highest elected Green official nationwide. Pat LaMarche, 2004 Green Party vice-presidential candidate, resides in the southern coastal town of Yarmouth. Maine state politicians, Republicans and Democrats alike, are noted for having more moderate views than many in the national wings of their respective parties.

Maine is an alcoholic beverage control state.

116. The NRA is not dictating it
It is the Congress of the United States of America, which will make it a Federal Law.

61. I went smelt fishing last week
Smelt are small sea-run fish traditionally fished through the ice at night in smelt camps - small rented wood-stove heated huts.

These smelt camps about as redneck as you can get in Maine.

You can hear just about every conversion in the place.

LePage was the butt of every joke.

He has pissed off everyone in the state - even his own supporters won't speak up for him anymore.

He won with only 38% of the vote.

The Maine GOP has over-reached and will be shellacked in 2012.

Sorry - no GOP future for you

yup

that the Dems were going to hang on to the House of Reps. last Nov..
From what I have read of your posts, 99% have been incorrect so far.
Not an attack on you, just fact.
