Help me...I've gone over the edge...

I traded in my M1 Carbine and $300 for this new Bushmaster M15 E2S and have now advanced to the netherworld...is there any hope for me?

1. Oh man
Not an M1... those are sweet old guns.
And for what... a .22 on steroids.

Sorry, your choice, of course.

12. Nothing against the M1 Carbine.
I've always thought of it in a class with the .357 and .44 mag carbines. The Garand, other than the en bloc clip, would be the ultimate rifle for me. Closest I have is a M1903 with a sport stock.

Hey, wasn't that a "sniper rifle" in WW II?

6. Hope you don't mind me askng
but isn't that a weapon on the banned list?

Must be special licenses that are available?

7. Isn't that the "new" list?
IIRC, the Bushmaster wasn't specifically listed in 94 ban. AR-15 was(Colt) and two or more evil features.

the two or more evil features. Like I said last week, I'm trying to figure out this weapon ban stuff - its a tad complicated.

14. It's complicated on purpose
I swear, the gun laws in this country are so poorly written, I think the NRA wrote them to discredit gun laws.

Caveat: I would support some well written gun laws; too bad no one writes any.
2nd amendment phrase forgotten by pro gun control: The right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed.
2nd amendment phrase foggoten by anti gun control: A well regulated militia being nescearry for the security of a free state,

21. You see,
the inflated prices of firearms in general due to all the regulations make it difficult for some of us to own them. $300 and a trade in for one rifle? That's terrible. These things used to be a lot cheaper and that was with all the extra metal and machining in the bayonet lugs and flash suppressors.

23. If this were posted in the lounge it would most likely get moved here
Should I perform an experiment? Say start a thread in the lounge showing my latest firearm aquisition and see how long it takes for it to get moved here??

25. I'll join you
I'll start a thread in the Lounge showing my latest vitamin-pill acquisition and see how long it takes for it to get moved to the Health/Education/Social Policy forum.

Or perhaps I'll start a thread in the Lounge showing my latest mechanical pencil acquisition and see how long it takes for it to get moved to the Health/Education/Social Policy forum.

Or maybe a thread about the utterly charming drummer I had a Brief Encounter with in Santiago de Cuba many years ago ... in the Foreign Affairs/National Security forum.

I'm just afraid that I'll end up waiting until hell freezes over for *my* hobbies and hobbyhorses to be treated as if they were issues.

What is a forum?
Forum is a collection of related topics.

WHERE TO POST VARIOUS DISCUSSION TOPICS
Posts that are unrelated to politics or public policy belong in the Lounge or the Meeting Room.

Why, I wonder, should people who post in Justice/Public Safety have the exclusive pleasure of reading about some people's hobbies and hobbyhorses? They're neither related to politics nor related to public policy in any way I can identify.

As for the, um, theory that this thread was related to the public policy relating to "assault weapons" in the US ... well damn, I just missed that content in the initial post.

In any event, I guess I just figured that if someone were announcing a firearms acquisition in a great big public place where s/he could be identified fairly easily, s/he would not be announcing that s/he had purchased a firearm illegally ... and if the firearm had been purchased legally, which I would therefore reasonably assume it was, then I think I might assume that it was not a banned weapon, and I would wonder what anyone else might have thought the issue was ...

28. oh, I thought there was a new game
I had a netscape crash, and when I wandered back here I saw some text in your post and figured it was the content of your post. I guess I'd lost some cookies, 'cause I then realized that I wasn't logged in and had to go do it -- and then when I came back to your post the text was gone. So I guess it was your signature line. I find them infinitely annoying, ofttimes in both form and substance, so I keep 'em hidden normally and avoid all sorts of irritation.

So when I saw your post, I thought maybe we were playing "quotes from people that are no authority on what they're talking about, but that I like". So I was going to offer a couple of my own. Wot the heck. Just pretend I have a signature line.

"I think that testosterone is a rare poison."
"You're only young once, but you can be immature forever."
-- Germaine Greer
"Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily this is not difficult."
-- Charlotte Whitton (Mayor of Ottawa, the capital of Canada, in the 1960s)
Guns don't kill people, Radical Pro-lifers kill people
"Guns are left to do what words might have done earlier, properly used."
-- John Waller (hey, I don't have a clue who he is/was, but I expect you to agree with him)

And I think my favourite of the day:
"Human beings have an inalienable right to invent themselves."
-- Germaine Greer

Let me know how your experiment goes. I'm sure we all know how mine would go without turning even on the Bunson burner.

24. Existence of doubt about what is or is not legally an assault weapon
Calls into question the clarity, rationale, justification, fairness, etc. of the laws in question.

22. 20 inch barrel or 24?
I have a 20 inch with a 1 in 9 on one of my pre-ban EBR's and I'm pretty satisfied.

I'm not good enough to know if the 20 vs 24 really makes a difference in long range shots, since the longest range I have access to is 300 yards.

Very nice camo job. Shoot and enjoy. Still lots of surplus ammo from Spain available in battlepacks too. (Last show, 400 rounds of 62 grain for $45.)

26. You should have kept the Carbine...
Why would you trade a historical piece such an M1 Carbine for AR-15 which you could get anywhere.

Was there something wrong with the Carbine or is this some especially unique AR-15?

29. M1 carbine is a fine collectors item...
It isn't a very good carbine in todays world. Ammunition is very expensive for the .30 carbine. I am not even satisfied with my AR-15 so I am trading it in for the M1a scout. It all depends on where you intend to use the rifle and what you prefer to shoot.

Just a note to the anti-gun people- I am selling the AR-15 on consignment at a local gun store. There will be a full background check for the purchase.
