If party affiliation of the originator is the measure of a law's legitimacy-....
...as some here would have it- should we not then attempt to do away with NASA (Eisenhower) and the Environmental Protection Agency

(Nixon)? Or does that standard apply only to gun laws?

3. It only applies to gun laws
just like fatality statistics for every other thing in existence matters not at all, only the stats for gun deaths count.

Likewise results are all that matter in most cases, but with guns the intent of the thing is all that matters.

It's a pretty typical religion, full of contradictions and double standards.

8. Not at all
Anti-gun enthusiasts must convince themselves that A) the 2nd amendment was about hunting, B) there is a significant correleation between gun ownership rates and crimes despite heaps of evidence to the contrary, C) gun owners are universally deranged sociopaths who only desire weapons to murder helpless people and D) the "intentions" behind guns somehow make them worth banning despite a lack of evidence to justify such a claim.

7. Fact-of-the-matter is
most new and pending legislation across America leading to less gun control has bipartisan sponsorship and support. So did NASA and the EPA. Just goes to show you that there really is some common sense on both sides of the isle - Thank Goodness!

10. Many well known Democrats favor RKBA ...
Including Harry Reid the Senate Majority Leader, Bill Richardson the former governor of New Mexico and Howard Dean the former governor of Vermont.

***snip***

Voted YES on prohibiting foreign & UN aid that restricts US gun ownership.

***snip***

Bill Richardson on Gun Control

Richardson positions himself strongly as a man of the West--down to his cowboy boots and string tie. As part of this image, he promotes his support of gun ownership, which dates back to his opposition in Congress to the 1993 Brady Bill. When the National Rifle Association endorsed him in his second run for governor in 2006, Richardson joined them for the announcement at the NRA-sponsored National Police Shooting Championships, held, according to the group’s website, at “a new, state-of-the-art facility i Albuquerque’s Shooting Range Park, made possible with $1.4 million in funding and vigorous support from governor Bill Richardson.“ The NRA’s executive director reported that Richardson ”has treated us first class.“ Richardson, who supported a law allowin New Mexicans to carry concealed weapons, told an appreciative crowd that he had a concealed-carry permit himself. ”I an not packing today, though, because I have plenty of State Police officers here to protect me.“

Howard Dean on Gun Control

Get guns off the national radar screen: no new federal laws
If I thought gun control would save lives in Vermont, I would support it. If you say "gun control" in Vermont or Tennessee, people think you want to take away their hunting rifle. If you say "gun control" New York or L.A., people are happy to see Uzi's or illegal handguns taken off the streets. I think Vermont ought to be able to have a different set of laws than California. Let's keep and enforce the federal gun laws we have, close the gun show loophole using Insta-check, and then let the states decide for themselves what if any gun control laws they want. We need to get guns off the national radar screen if Democrats are ever going to win again in the South and the West. Just as we resist attempts by President Bush to dictate to the states how we run our school systems and what kind of welfare programs to have, we need to resist attempts to tell states how to deal with guns beyond existing Federal law.

No more federal gun laws; leave them to states
Dean brags that he has an A rating from the National Rifle Association. Dean favors the existing federal gun-control laws but believes that any further gun control is best left to individual states.

While it is true that many prominent Democrats who are in office would love to pass draconian gun laws, many oppose such measures. Therefore it's obvious that the Democratic Party is divided on the issue of gun control and is indeed a Big Tent.
