Shooting Range May Be Sued After Gun Theft
http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2011/mar/07/shooting-range-may-be-sued-after-gun-theft-ar-416411/

A Central Ohio crime-fighting organization may sue the victim of a crime.

The Powder Room in Powell was robbed a two handguns and now Central Ohio Crime Stoppers said the shooting range didn't do enough to stop the crime.

Surveillance video from the crime on Feb. 9 shows the suspect in a red T-shirt and gray sweatshirt renting two guns. He walked into the range and then left to go out to his car and didn't return.

The two guns taken were a Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun with serial number FNH951 and a Springfield XD9 9mm handgun with serial number #US926644

10. Guns are inert physical devices.
Guns do not prevent crime.

Guns in the hands of responsible citizens unhindered by draconian laws prevent crimes.

12. Those guys were totally emasculated!
For all their rough, tough fearless imagery that they fashion for themselves, they got ripped off and were helpless. Way sad. Way pathetic.

6. Both the range and the thief were dumbasses
The range for not requiring id. Any range I ever rented at required my photo id.

And this doofus left a good pic behind on the video system & he also has a distinctive tattoo.

8. Trivial to do
I never really thought about this, but I suppose it would be trivial to do. Rent gun, go to the range, then excuse yourself to go to the restroom. Take the gun with you, and when you walk out of the bathroom just leave the store.

But, as was said, any range I've been to and rented a firearm you have to provide a photo ID. Not to mention they all have video surveillance.

But hey, if Illinois succeeds in publishing who has an FOID card or not criminals can just go steal them from private citizens.

11. Must have been a slow news day (or a paper on a mission) - an uninvolved party
announces that they're consulting with their attorneys to see if they can sue a crime victim? Will the paper also report when the attorneys tell the clients that they have no standing? When the paper does report that, will it be posted here?
