Gun control in Mexico puts guns in the hands of killers while suppressing gun ownership of |
|
Good people.
This is similar to the situation in the middle east where gun control gave Mubarak and Qaddafi the ability to decide who gets to own guns.
In Mexico strong gun control makes it more difficult for normal people to possess a gun yet government approved individuals have access to firearms, the gov of Mexico is a corrupt mess and so military grade weapons that were in the hands of government approved individuals (military, police) end up in the hands of the drug gangs. In effect gun control in Mexico ensures that military style weapons are in the hands of criminals but not in the hands of normal people. Such a large imbalance of power results in drug gang members doing whatever they want to regular people.

1. Gun ownership is a right |
|
I've never committed a crime. I haven't even had a traffic violation since 1977. But if firearm ownership became illegal tomorrow, then I would willingly become a criminal. If fact, a program of disarming citizens should be a signal for citizens to arm themselves.
The irony of the right to self-defense is that it is so debated when it really isn't even subject to debate.

One wonders why they don't move to Mexico, though.

The 90 percent is a misquote of what the ATF really said. Snopes and Fact check also points that out, but stratfor.com has a more detailed report. One thing is missing is how many of the US guns are going to otherwise law abiding Mexicans to defend themselves from drug gangs and corrupt police? http://www.stratfor.com/weekly/20110209-mexicos-gun-supply-and-90-percent-myth
