House Bill 148, sponsored by state Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Norris City, would authorize Illinois residents 21 and older to apply for permits to carry concealed firearms in public. Similar proposals were introduced in the Senate. The proposal would need approval from lawmakers in both chambers.

7. whats interesting is that this bill has support from the illinois state sheriff's association

and the state police haven't taken a position but seem to be leaning towards support.
