With an eye on the recent tragedy in Tucson, Arizona, Representative Lori Berman today, March 8, filed the “Weapons or Firearms Bill” in the Florida House.

<not much more>

It would limit clips to 15 rounds

1. In Florida? Probably the worst state to try and pass this crap in.
It has about a snowall's chance in hell of even getting to the floor for a vote, let alone passing.

15. To be followed immediately by a fund raising letter?
Maybe I've just become very cynical over the last few years.

I've noted that politicians will "Introduce a Bill" for something or other, usually something they try and make high profile, than the next day or two I get a letter or e-mail telling me how "Courageous so and so is, and is facing major opposition and he/she needs your help in this fight ... in the form of a check or credit card donation".

During the Healthcare debate last year I was getting two or three a week by e-mail and snail mail fro different people, only a few from my area.

I'm going to guess that this is one of those. She knows this has no chance to pass, and by the next election cycle most of her base will forget it, but for fund raising it works now.

6. For an 'expert' on all things related to guns and politics....
...you are rather uninformed about Florida Democrats. (Hint: a very high percentage of them are gun owners, and will not

take kindly to this proposal.)

3. South Florida House Democrat files legislation to ban high volume ammunition
Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 08:22 AM by jpak
http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/dailyloaf/2011/03/08/south-florida-house-democrat-files-legislation-to-ban-high-volume-ammunition/

<snip>

New York Democratic Representative Carolyn McCarthy in the House and New Jersey U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg (D) proposed bills the following week in Congress that would ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

Here in Florida, where the Legislative session is beginning today and where the NRA holds a vise-like grip over the House and Senate, one South Florida Democrat, Lori Berman from Delray Beach, has filed a bill (HB 1335) that would ban the sale or transfer of ammunition clips with a capacity greater than 15 bullets.

“This Legislation is about protecting our citizens. It is absolutely common sense to limit the amount of bullets a normal gun can continuously fire,” said Representative Berman. “Fifteen bullet ammunition clips will limit the destructive capabilities of a person on a shooting spree.”

A Florida House Democratic spokesman says that six states have enacted similar legislation. Florida Democratic state Senator Gwen Margolis has filed a similar bill in the Senate.

18. By your very own words... this DEM's legislation is aimed at allowing WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION
And evidently, her actions incubate your statement, "Dems rule republics suck"

You're quite the hypocrite, just in case you haven't noticed.

20. Reductio ad Hitlerum
Or basic guilt/honor by association...

Basically...
If a Rebub says it = BAD
If a Dem says it = GOOD

Problem is, sometimes they say the same things.

Here is how I look at it. Toss out completely the fact that they are either Dem or Repub... Then you are left with the fact that they are all politicians...
If a Politician says it = It's probably not good.

7. It won't affect her re-election chances. It's all about appearing "tough on crime"
The elderly condo crowd in her district will eat it up- and everyone else will ignore it.

Berman can say "Look what I did."- without actually having done anything...

16. That's the problem. "Feel good" laws are worthless ...
but politicians love them when they have an uninformed voter base.

Over the years, voters have finally started to wise up.

You can fool all of the people some of the time, etc.

8. My XDm 9 mm comes with standard 19-bullet magazines.
Under this proposed law, what would happen to my magazines (if I lived in Florida)?

14. I thought that 11 rounds was evil? You mean that she supports allowing the Proles to have WMDs?
Can we at least get our arbitrary numbers straight? I'm confused now.

Depending on how you look at it, you could say that she supports "extended magazines, high capacity magazines, weapons of mass destruction, etc...".

19. I'm just so sick of arbitrary numbers.
I'm not one to fall into hysterics when new laws are proposed and have never run out and bought a gun or in this case magazines thinking they are going to be banned...

That said, this weekend I bought a rifle that my wife and I have been eye-balling for quite some time now. I traded in a rifle I was not too pleased with(FN SCAR), and bought a Rock River AR... It came with two... Count them TWO "high cap", "extended", "WMD", etc... magazines. Whatever... It is just what shipped with the rifle, so I call them standard magazines.
