Legislature’s Obsession with Weakening Gun Laws Has No Public Support (AZ)

<snip>

The Jan. 8 shooting in Tucson, which killed six and injured 13, was both high-profile and tragic. Less well known, but equally tragic, are the following facts:

• Gun-related deaths and injuries are a daily occurrence in Arizona communities. Each year almost 900 individuals in our state – more than 2 every day – die from gunshot injuries. Nearly 1,400 experience gun-related injuries but survive, many with lifelong health impacts.

Young people pay a particularly heavy price; gunshot injury is the leading cause of death for Arizona teens 15-17.

• Arizona is, in fact, consistently among the most deadly states for gun violence. Over a nine-year period (1999-2007), the state’s rate of gun deaths – nearly 16 per 100,000 – ranked seventh in the nation and was 60 percent higher than the national average of 10.

1. According to one blogger. You need to read Robert Caro:

3. The posted data doesn't fit any known facts.
1) If Arizona is "consistently among the most deadly states for gun violence," how do they fall exactly in the middle of the chart in this thread right here on DU?

2) There are several Arizona members of this forum who support the ending of these restrictions on our rights. Are they not "the public?" (Answer: Yes, they are.) Guess that throws out the headline of "No Public Support."

That guest blogger has no credibility.
