OKLAHOMA: Bill allowing guns on some campuses clears House 84-14

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Students, faculty and visitors who have permits to carry concealed weapons would be allowed to carry guns in their vehicles onto the campuses of CareerTechs in Oklahoma under a bill passed by the state House of Representatives.

House members voted 84-14 for the bill Thursday. It now heads to the Senate.

Rep. John Enns of Enid said police can't be everywhere and that the bill will allow people to defend themselves. Opponents worried about the safety of students on campus.

Rep. Paul Roan from Tishomingo asked lawmakers to consider how they would feel if one student was killed because of a gun brought to campus.

The weapon would have to remain locked in the vehicle while on campus.

3. Yes. It would be much better if they were allowed to carry them...
...instead of leaving them in the car.

6. Awesome, because college students never get into drunken brawls.
And rival schools never come to campus and upset the home team. Drunk college kids are always rational and never ignore the serious consequences of their actions.

Have you ever been on a college campus?

7. And this never happens OFF campus
Since those with CCW's can already carry OFF campus. You do realize that right.

at any of the colleges that currently allow CC on campus?

We'll wait

12. What, drunken brawls?
You've obviously never been on a college campus.

I saw them occur almost every weekend. I shutter to think what would have happened if lots of guns were involved.

13. You saw them OFF campus.
CCW is already legal off campus. The law will not change that.

Sports and beer are kind of a big deal at college.

The bars at my school were about 10 feet from campus.

10. That stuff happen off campus. It is not effected by an ON Campus law.

Are you being intentionaly obtuse. Are you deliberately conflating on/off campus events?

Furthermore, one has to be 21 to get a CCW. That is an adult.

Do you really believe that college is nothing but a drunken haze for four years?

BTW - I have a Master's degree. My wife has returned to college at age 65 and is taking course to update her degree. So I am well familiar with University Campuses.

15. Druken brawls don't descriminate. They happen on and off campus.
Add guns and there will be innocent death added to the mix.

It's pretty much the worst idea I've ever heard.

17. The Chicken Little predictions haven't come true yet.
For over 20 years we have been hearing the gun control crowd's handwringing and crying about the terrible bloodshed and return to the Wild West every time a state went shall-issue. The predictions didn't come true then and they won't now.

4. if it has to remain locked in a vehicle
what is the point? A mad gunman starts shooting people and you run to your car to grab your gun?

Dumb to allow them at all.

9. A local high school campus has a sign:
"Criminal Activity Prohibited".

The irony is astounding
