aim for the head
"A photo has surfaced of the son of a man shot dead by police in Washington Township last month pointing an assault weapon, with a comment from his father urging him to "shoot laying down or in a squatting position" and "aim for the chest... unless they have thick body armor... hen you might need to aim for the head." http://www.cliffviewpilot.com/bergen/2209-man-killed-in-police-self-defense-shooting-urged-son-to-aim-for-the-head

Inside the house, investigators found 27 long rifles.

2. The U.S. has a population of about 310 million.
With that many people some people will do bad things with guns. The actions of those few are not a good reason to ban me from having guns.

3. Long rifle is LOOOOOOOOOONG
Seriously, WTF does "long rifle" mean.

Does it mean this (middle guy):

Or this:

Does it just mean "long gun"?

Sounds like he "urged his son to shoot properly." I'm not saying violence is good, but there is nothing inherently wrong with having the tools and knowledge to perpetrate it.

Yes, prone and low supported positions are best.

And yes, that is how you shoot at people...center mass, unless armored.

These posts are making less and less sense and becoming less and less relevant...to anything.

4. Why was this guy able to own firearms?
"They provided for him, those two, after his wife fled the madness a decade ago. They bought him his own pet shop in Glen Rock, rather than see him go on welfare. It didn't last long.

His mother even excused him after he pushed her down the steps, and supported him during his frequent mental hospital stays."

6. Family Neglegence ?
If a family member is abusive to the point law enforcement has to be called the family has a duty to take action. Get a restraining order. This family was apparently indulgent.

Why didn't the mental hospital do something?

This story sounds like death by cop.

7. Sounds like Loughner Mark II
Edited on Tue Mar-22-11 12:44 PM by AtheistCrusader
He couldn't hold down a job either. Living under parents roof. Yet somehow got money for drugs, a very expensive glock, ammo, mags, and... bad times.

Washington normally is good at reporting this sort of thing. I suspect dad provided him with the rifle, which probably even bypasses the idea of a private transfer.

Edit: Ah, not Washington State.

5. Washington Township, New Jersey? I believe one of our most beloved "absent friends" lives there.
I wonder...

I collect WW2 era firearms. I have more than 27 long rifles.

So?

9. Yeah, me too.
It's not a crime, even in New Jersey.
