PHOENIX (AP) — Sports and band promoters say they are concerned about a proposed state law they fear could open the door to allowing guns inside arenas and stadiums.

A House committee is scheduled Thursday to hear a Senate bill requiring that guns be allowed into public buildings and events unless they have metal detectors, armed security guards, gun lockers and signs.

The Arizona Republic reports the measure applies to courts, libraries and city council chambers. It creates an exemption for events or facilities, such as publicly funded arenas, that serve alcohol. It would require those facilities to post signs and provide gun lockers if they want to prohibit guns.

Jackbooted GOP thugs impose their *authoritarian* gun rules on business owners.

GOP/NRA social engineering at its worst.

5. If there are metal detectors I am fine with banning guns.....
if not then the bad guys will bring them anyway and I think law abiding citizens should have them.

Of course private property is up to the owner.

11. Why should they be able to declare a public gathering a no gun zone if they won't back it up with
metal detectors and proper security at the entry/exit points? This is a fantastic bill, and I hope texas works on one also.

12. What's the big deal?
I go to my local courthouse, I declare to the deputy that I need to check my firearm. I bypass the metal detector, go to the clerk and check my firearm. The deputy then wands me and I'm in. NBD.

I go to a Phillies game, I alert a gate supervisor who then escorts me to the Police Room. My weapon is checked and I get it back at the end of the game.

What's the big deal?

13. Requiring someone put up a sign and provide gun lockers if they ban guns is jackbooted authoritarian
Why? If they are going to ban someone from practicing a constitutional right on their property, the least they could do is inform people of it and give them a place to keep their guns.

I fail to see the problem, are gun owners not allowed to know where they can take their guns?

14. Do you really believe that criminals pay attention to "No Guns" signs?
I bet you believe the following video isn't satire:

15. By public building
they mean a venue built and maintained with tax dollars. There's no "forcing authoritarian blah blah blah" going on. If someone wants to hold an event in a public building and doesn't want firearms inside, lockers and metal detectors are a good idea. That way there aren't 200 cars out in the parking lot with unattended, unsecured guns in them, and the metal detectors make sure that a "gun free zone" isn't just a "target rich environment".
