More North Texans Linked to Mexican Drug Cartel Guns
http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/118686294.html

Four Tarrant County men bought more than $100,000 in assault rifles over the past six months, including one that was used in a shootout in Mexico in which eight people were killed, according to a federal criminal complaint.

It is the third case in the past month in which guns purchased in North Texas have been linked to the drug war in Mexico.

The men, Reynaldo Bazan, Saul Bazan, Carlos Bazan and Obed Martinez, were arrested on Thursday by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives.

<snip>

The complaint alleges they have bought 129 assault rifles since October, usually two at a time.

2. They weren't "assault rifles"
And when you can post they were convicted, then you have a story.

Innocent until proven guilty, ya know.

P.S. You forgot your normal NRA/GOP moran shtick

4. Anyone who is involved in gun smuggling or the illegal sale of firearms ...
does indeed deserves to end up in prison for a LONG time. A person who is a straw purchaser should be charged as an accessory to any crime committed with a weapon he purchased.

This, of course, depends on the individual being convicted of the crime, not merely charged.

I wonder if these people were some of the individuals the AFT instructed gun store owners to sel firearms as part of the ATF "Gunwalker" program.

ATF gunwalking: Who knew, and how high up?
March 25, 2011 11:52 AM

by CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson

Since our first report in which ATF agents told us they allowed thousands of weapons to cross into Mexico, one crucial question has been: Who knew -- how high up? This week for the first time, President Obama addressed the controversy. It was in an interview Tuesday evening with the Spanish language network Univision.

"Well first of all I did not authorize it. Eric Holder the Attorney General did not authorize it. He's been very clear that our policy is to catch gun runners and put 'em into jail," Mr. Obama said of the controversial ATF operation called "Fast and Furious."

***snip***

The whole controversy was exposed last month when ATF agent John Dodson and others blew the whistle to CBS News. They told us they were ordered to let assault rifles and other weapons "walk" into the hands of Mexican drug cartels in a failed attempt to take down a cartel.

8. If your job is to stop gun smuggling...
you shouldn't allow thousands of guns to be smuggled into Mexico where who knows how many people were injured or killed by these weapons.

and the complete backing of the American People , we'll round that corner too .

13. We could throw a trillion dollars at the drug problem ...
and considering how well we have done in the past we would just be flushing that money down the toilet.

Even China has drug problems.

China's status in drug trafficking has changed significantly since the 1980s, when the country for the first time opened its borders to trade and tourism after 40 years of relative isolation. As trade with Southeast Asian countries and the elsewhere increased, so did the flow of illicit drugs and precursor chemicals from, into, and through China.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_drug_trade_in_the_People%27s_Republic_of_China

A century ago, imperial China was said to be home to 100 million drug users, languid addicts who filled opium dens and closed their eyes as their proud country ebbed into chaos and war. When the victorious communists took over in 1949, they eradicated drug use and cultivation in a matter of years. Beijing's cadres were quickly able to control practically everything: people's jobs, their marriages, even their sex lives. Naturally, opium, with its fantasy-fueling smoke, had no place in this Orwellian state. But today, as China loosens its hold on its economy and society, people are reveling in making their own choices once again. For many, the biggest lure is the greatest taboo: drugs. Independent sources estimate 7 million to 12 million drug addicts nationwide, and although that figure pales per capita compared with the U.S.'s, the number of junkies climbs each year. If the trend continues, in just five years China could have the most addicts per capita of any major economy. More than 80% are under 35 years of age, according to the central government, which keeps meticulous—if questionable—statistics but is far less adept at tackling this burgeoning problem.

However, that has nothing to do with me and my guns.
