Gun control has NEVER been about reducing crime. Only the most naive would even put them in the same sentence.
Decades ago, Howard Metzenbaum, as a Senator from Ohio was the most eloquent in revealing that crime had nothing to do with it.
"I don’t care about crime, I just want to get the guns."
"No, we’re not looking at how to control criminals . . . we’re talking about banning the AK-47 and semi-automatic guns."
"Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic — purely symbolic — move in that direction. Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation." - Charles Krauthammer, 1996, Washington Post
Now, you might wonder why? The drill is simple. Wait for a good tragedy, and before the blood can congeal jump on TV and proclaim, "How many more...yadda, yadda, before we eliminate the scourge of criminals, lunatics, with... assault weapons, saturday night specials, easily concealable handguns with multi-bullet clips (sic)!!"
They did that with Gun Control Act of 1968, waiting periods, Brady, the Assault weapons ban, magazine ban, import ban, in fact, with every piece of gun legislation in my lifetime.
What happens when there is no change in the crime rate? Look at the '94 AWB, after ten years the reason crime didn't go down, if you listen to the gun control crowd is that every failed law did not go FAR enough!!!!
Count on it!! Like any good charlatan, if you point out that none of their laws are working like THEY CLAIMED, they will reassure they have THE CURE!!!! The only problem is you didn't buy enough of it!
