Anti-gun LCAV legal director Juliet Leftwich admits gun control laws don't reduce crime
When asked if there was a change before and after California adopted current gun control laws, LCAV legal director Juliet Leftwich replies "Unfortunately there's not a lot of great data out there..."
She goes on to suggest California's crime rates dropped as a result of strong gun control laws, but again admits "it's always hard to prove causation."
So basically, LCAV is an organization pushing for gun control legislation with no actual data or evidence to support their position.

1. BUT, the new laws make people feel good
and of course that's always the best reason for more new laws.

.

Yes, this is :sarcasm:

Tell that to the tens of thousands of people killed by guns in the United States who WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN KILLED IN EVERY OTHER COUNTRY WITH STRONG GUN CONTROL LAWS.

Good god, what a stupid post.

4. Wouldn't have been killed otherwise? Seriously? You say that as if...
You say that as if getting shot is the only way to die.

Good god, what a stupid post.

5. Care to provide proof of that statement?
You know what happened to the murder rate in England when they banned guns? It stayed exactly the same. There is no evidence whatsoever that, if guns were suddenly made illegal, people would just spontaneously stop committing crime. In fact, on the face of it it's rather absurd: the assertion that if the law says they can't have a gun--which it already says--that criminals will abide by it and drop their plans to COMMIT MURDER.

9. So what's new there??
Gun control has NEVER been about reducing crime. Only the most naive would even put them in the same sentence.

Decades ago, Howard Metzenbaum, as a Senator from Ohio was the most eloquent in revealing that crime had nothing to do with it.

"I don’t care about crime, I just want to get the guns."

"No, we’re not looking at how to control criminals . . . we’re talking about banning the AK-47 and semi-automatic guns."

"Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic — purely symbolic — move in that direction. Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation." - Charles Krauthammer, 1996, Washington Post

Now, you might wonder why? The drill is simple. Wait for a good tragedy, and before the blood can congeal jump on TV and proclaim, "How many more...yadda, yadda, before we eliminate the scourge of criminals, lunatics, with... assault weapons, saturday night specials, easily concealable handguns with multi-bullet clips (sic)!!"

They did that with Gun Control Act of 1968, waiting periods, Brady, the Assault weapons ban, magazine ban, import ban, in fact, with every piece of gun legislation in my lifetime.

What happens when there is no change in the crime rate? Look at the '94 AWB, after ten years the reason crime didn't go down, if you listen to the gun control crowd is that every failed law did not go FAR enough!!!!

Count on it!! Like any good charlatan, if you point out that none of their laws are working like THEY CLAIMED, they will reassure they have THE CURE!!!! The only problem is you didn't buy enough of it!
