Interesting quote on guns and violence
This came from a novel, but it seems to nicely sum up the views of most gun owners I know...

Okay, so Jill didn't approve of guns. It was hard to blame her. But to me, disapproving of guns was simplistic and naive. Like disapproving of violence, without making any distinction between an aggressor and a victim acting in self-defense. What I disapproved of was the initiation of violence.

(From Sean Chercover's debut novel "Big City, Bad Blood.")

2. Tell the thousands of dead Americans killed by guns that disliking guns
is "simplistic and naive". There's a book I'll never read. What a dumb statement.

5. Tell the thousands of people who used a firearm in legitimate self defense ...
that disliking guns is "simplistic and naive" and they will agree with that statement.

Why is it that you always hear of people murdered by firearms and rarely when someone defends himself/herself with one.

The media hates to publish stories that are favorable to gun ownership but loves to publish those stories where a criminal murders someone.

Of course, many times a firearm in used for self defense and no shots are fired. That was the case when my daughter pointed a large revolver at a man forcing the sliding glass door of our home open. He ran.

7. One thing is for sure, your response to this certainly is "simplistic and naive."

13. What about the thousands of living Americans saved by them?
The fact of the matter is, without firearms, in any physical assault the weak will always be at the mercy of the strong. Victims will have only three choices: Flee (if they are strong enough to run), submit (if they are strong enough to survive), or engage in a physical contest of strength (if they are strong enough to fight).

That's it.

Without firearms, every physical assault puts the weak at the mercy of the strong. This is the antithesis of being progressive.
