1 Woman Killed, 3 Others Wounded in Shooting at a College in Alabama
Woman Killed, 3 Others Wounded in Shooting at a College in Alabama

One person was killed and four others injured in a shooting at the Southern Union State Community College in eastern Alabama Wednesday afternoon, the Opelika Police said.

The victims include a 63-year-old woman who was shot dead; a 90-year-old woman who was shot in the neck and back who was airlifted to a hospital in Georgia and a 36-year-old woman who was shot in the arm. A 4-year-old boy was also treated for getting hit with shards of glass.

Police identified the shooter as a relative of the victims and the shooting was likely the result of domestic violence.

10. That is the rationale given for guns in the hands of the public.
That is Heller in a nutshell.

17. Are firearms in the hands of governments any safer?
NOT.

18. The Heller decision cites self-defense in the home as just one example of protected uses of firearms
You should read it.

20. Cars are intended for legal transportation purposes in the hands of the public.
Sometimes they are used to commit crimes, including injure or kill innocent people, therefore we should ban them.

That seems to be your interpretation of Heller, in a nutshell. And it makes you look... not very bright.

11. So actually a shooting in the parking lot of a community college
Edited on Thu Apr-07-11 03:35 AM by Euromutt
And almost certainly not connected in any meaningful way to the operation of the college.

If I had to guess, I'd say the 36 year-old was the guy's estranged or ex-wife, the 63 year-old his mother-in-law (whom he held responsible for the breakup), and the 90 year-old his grandmother-in-law.

And isn't it odd how certain posters don't mind linking to Fox News when it suits their purpose?

blood and guts debate that guns are needed on campuses but what those who advocate such nonsense fail to realize is that most of these mass shooters are law abiding citizens until they snap. Do we then allow more people with guns on campuses to protect us from those with guns who snap? Will more guns really stop that or will we see even more incidents such as these?

13. Good job...
...belaboring the dead horse that is that rhetoric. Brilliant deduction on the fact that people are law abiding until they commit a crime. Actually the advocates do realize this (and so much more), it's your camp that fails to realize that gun-free zones don't protect anyone.

I'm sure that was a nice bright "No Guns" sign in that parking lot, really helpful. /sarcasm

15. Yeah, and what I can't figure out is
Why hasn't anybody sued the manufacturer of the "gun free zone" signs? These things seem to have a hell of a failure rate. It seems that bad guys with guns can just walk right past any sign that says "no guns allowed" with a gun any time they want. I thought the signs were supposed to throw up some kind of invisible force field through which no guns could pass, or something like that.

14. You're recycling the same tired argument
that anti-rights folks first spewed when states started going with shall issue CCW. Hasn't been a problem yet, and there are 40 states where permits are easily available (to those who meet the criteria). When do you expect the rivers of blood in the streets?

16. It's an equal rights issue. Men and women as equals.
Or do you believe women are lesser than men and should not be afforded the right to defend themselves?

Society has brain washed women into believing they should be passive in their existence.

It's a woman's right to choose how to defend her body.

21. Indeed, we'll only be safe when all college campuses are declared gun-free zones
Colleges such as this one . . .
