Maryland to become Shall-Issue?
Maybe...maybe not. Likely not on their first attempt, but it still represents progress in the backwards thinking towards gun ownership in that state.

There will be a hearing on 3/17 in the state senate on a bill to have Maryland join the majority of states that respect the gun owning rights of its citizens. Even more interesting, is now the anti gunners have to defend their anti gun agenda in one of the most anti gun states in the US. Slowly, the last bastion of their flawed thinking is beginning to crumble.

1. I can't believe it, either
This year, the Judicial Committee will actually have a hearing on this issue. Maybe it's because Sen. Jimeno (D) is on the committe and is a co-sponsor? In past years, similar bills never even got a hearing.

This Senate bill (SB137-Self Defense Act-Rule of Law) is very reasonable in its language, training requirements, etc.; the House version (HB859 -Citizen's Protection Act) is a bit more inflammatory in language, but I guess that's because the House proponents are sick of the bull**** that goes in in the MD House concerning firearms legislation.

(FYI the MD House has a bill in the works to ban the MD bear hunt that was just approved. The anti-bear-hunting delegates are pretty much all from Montgomery & Prince Georges's Counties in the DC area.:eyes: The hunt would take place literally over a hundred miles away from their districts, out in Western Maryland in the WV/VA/PA/MD quad-state region).

I am planning a return trip to Annapolis to testify on SB137, but if I can't make it I will still submit written testimony.

2. Good for you Rom!
Pretty soon the anti's will be limited to CA and NJ...and then only NJ...and then there will be no more room for them.

4. It is going to become very difficult for anti gunners
in a few years. They haven't had a victory in ages, and they are losing allies all the time.

Soon, one more states become RTC, CA will have a hard time justifying to its citizens that they should have those rights.

15. I prefer AIR FORCE!
Planes tend to keep your ass out of the mud - unless you're foolish enough to jump out of a perfectly good one - like Airborne and Ranger types.

16. Hey, I've done both
Sat in the mud on watch and jumped out of perfectly good airplanes (on my own time).

I think I'm done doing both though. Too much excitement for me. :)

17. Good thing you stopped
Professional counseling for such compulsions can cost more than a new BMG. I'd prefer the BMG. Then I can go play in the mud and shoot down airplanes. /VPC baiting off

Just a Rifle that will fire the .50 BMG round.

19. No kidding
I think I spent enough jumping to buy maybe half a BMG. I actually stopped right when it actually starts to get cheaper. But alas, one cannot keep up too many expensive hobbies. So skydiving had to go out the door so I could keep shooting regularly.

13. It may become the golden state once again
unfortunately for firearms owners and enthusiasts, it's the golden stream state. Gun owners stay pissed off because the idiots in Sacramento keep pissing on them.

Good luck for future progress. We're rooting for ya!

20. That's because people are dumb, but they're not THAT dumb ;)
As study after study comes out that says gun ownership causes a DECREASE of violent crime, and the AWB has NOT cut crime etc...
People have to realize that the only reason for gun control is PEOPLE control, and Americans are only okay w/minimal controls on people that have committed no crime.

23. They will always have Illinois, I'm sad to report
With "Hizzoner Da Mare" now running the state, county and city there is no way in hell that we are ever going to get any form of CC passed here.

I'm not a pessimist, just pragmatic. The Downstate Dems just don't have the juice to over ride him on this stuff.

It looks like Wisconsin will get their CCW next year and MO will overcome the court induced delays and we will remain the mruder capital for a few more years, unless the latest round of financial scandals unties Daley's web.

10. Good luck!
I wish the best of luck to the state of my birth. It's a sad fact that I couldn't live in Maryland in its present condition.

As for hopeless, anti-gun states, don't forget Chicago-controlled Illinois. California will probably have shall-issue concealed carry before Illinois.

12. Maryland could become "shall issue" in 5 minutes
The regulations regarding concealed carry are promulgated by the governor and enforced by the state police. Ehrlich writes a memo to the State Police and Marylander have concealed carry.

Of course, the legislature would go into revolt and then can override his veto at will.

Also, MD is currently considering CA style assault weapon ban to take effect when federal ban sunsets.
