(Stupid republican) Illinois Gun Bill Fails
http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2011/04/07/illinois-gun-bill-fails/

A measure that would have stripped local governments from regulating how gun owners store their weapons has failed in the Illinois House.

State law requires gun owners to keep their firearms either locked up, or stripped down and fashioned with a device so that the gun is inoperable. The law’s intent is to protect children from gun related accidents. But local governments can pass ordinances that fine tune the gun storage regulation and apply it to their residents.

State Rep. Wayne Rosenthal (R-(edit-moran) Morrisonville) sponsored the bill that would have created a blanket gun storage law, preventing local governments from having individual laws.

“It’s just another case of where we’re trying to make the laws concerning guns and gun storage and the ownership of guns consistent across the state, so we don’t have a patchwork of laws statewide where individuals don’t know, going from one municipality to another, what the laws are that govern them,” said Rosenthal.

1. Another duplicate post - BTW how's the repeal of CCW in Maine going?
You already celebrated this last week.

I guess you missed the defeat of the 1 gun a month bill, the lost & stolen gun bill that died on the floor of the House. Or the bipartisan demand for an audit of the FOID department.

We're touched that you are so concerned with our citizens welfare. How is your work to repeal Maine's CCW law going? Got those petitions printed yet?

5. Be my guest - That's why the whole gun control thing is failing dismally
And that's why you're getting beaten at the polls, in the courts and in the legislatures.

All the fans of more gun control seem to do is "Recc" and post and rant online.

Gun owners actually do something, we go shooting on the weekends or after work, we spend millions of $ on our hobby and we congregate. Millions of us also join organizations and clubs that support our hobby. Gun control people OTOH talk e online and at cocktail parties, but actually do jack shit in the real world. That's why Brady has no members or contributions and there hasn't been a credible gun control organization for over a decade with any real grass roots support.

Oh, and we vote too and that seems to capture the attention of a lot of political types and may explain why the President agrees with us on these things and not your side.

Please keep reccing things again and again when the same article is posted again and again. You have so few to work with lately anyway, reusing them is only fair I guess. I'm sure it makes you feel really good to strike another blow against those evil mind altering guns and gun owners out there.

How many legislators do you think your Re-Recc will influence? Are you doing anything beside writing letters to the editor, if that, to repeal CCW in your home state? Didn't think so.

16. I'm guessing that neither I, nor the 4.5 million dues paying NRA members are losing any sleep
Keep us posted on anything you actually do besides talk. Contributions to Brady or the Josh Sugarmann retirement fund? Gun control protests? Something? Anything?

4. Jessica Carpenter's mother
begs to disagree with you. Sorry, I don't but the idea the make inoperable nonsense has anything to do with child safety or crime prevention. There are those who believe that defending yourself or resisting an attacker is uncivilized or immoral. These laws are more about trying to cram their warped sense of morality down our throats.

7. How will having consistent gun laws throughout the state negatively effect anyone?
What benefit is there to having hundreds of different arbitrary and confusing gun laws throughout the state?

10. What negative effects would this change have?
State level regulation is ubiquitous in the US system of governance. What reason is there to oppose this?

9. The newspaper article mentions concealed carry is close to passing in Illinois ...
If it doesn't pass this year I predict it will pass in 2012.

Florida has had "shall issue" concealed carry since 1987. It's long past time for the citizens of Illinois to become first class citizens that can enjoy the same Second Amendment rights that the citizens of many other states enjoy.
