Sports teams and stadium managers may have successfully nixed a state gun bill that would have allowed fans to carry guns into their venues.

The Arizona House of Representatives voted to exempt sports venues from a state bill to require that guns be allowed in public places and buildings, unless those venues have gun lockers and airport-style security checkpoints at their entrances.

The previous version of the bill included sports arenas and stadiums, prompting opposition from the Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority, University of Phoenix Stadium, the Arizona Cardinals and other local professional teams. The issue brought sometimes rival front offices together in opposition.
