"Open Carry" Ban Passes With Emergency Provision (MO)
http://maplewood-brentwood.patch.com/articles/open-carry-ban-passes-with-emergency-provision

Carrying exposed firearms in Maplewood is no longer allowed.

Maplewood City Council voted to ban the practice—often referred to as open carry—with a 6-1 vote during a meeting on Tuesday night. Third Ward Councilman Shawn Faulkingham was the only dissenting vote.

The council attached an emergency provision to the bill, which makes the ordinance immediately effective. Most ordinances require 15 days to pass before taking effect.

The vote follows an incident on March 12 when a man carried an unconcealed gun in Walmart, which prompted workers to call police. Carrying an exposed firearm is not outlawed by state statutes, but local ordinances can restrict or ban the practice. Some cities completely ban open carry, some require people who carry exposed firearms to own a concealed carry permit, while other cities do nothing at all. No training is required for people who carry an exposed firearm, but it is required if someone wishes to carry a concealed firearm.

1. Nothing happened - again
A man carried a firearm, holstered on his belt into a store and nothing happened. Wal Mart's top of the line employees panic and call the cops (Didn't know you were such a big fan of Wal Mart?)

Quick! Pass an emergency provision to make sure that the "nothing" happens again. "Gentlemen, we've got to protect our phony baloney jobs!" Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Almost as stupid as banning "plastic guns" that only exist on movie sound stages and in script writers imaginations. Eventually Mo residents will get tired of different laws in every little fiefdom the drive through and pass a state wide pre-emption and - nothing will happen, just like every other state.

But for now it gives gun control fans something to get all fizzy and excited about and get their knickers in a twist for a few minutes.

5. perhaps he should contact corporate while hes at it
WalMarts policy is to allow the carry of firearms if it is legal in the state. They arent supposed to toss you out, barring any criminal activity, or perhaps threatening someone, getting into an argument and so on.

14. It actually is good. It sets up a legal case. The gun rights side couldn't ask for better foils. n/t

4. So let me get this straight...
One man does something perfectly legal where there was no harm done.

City passes an emergency provision to make it illegal.

Good thing he did not have a mustache. I'd have to shave.

6. These fools are bucking to make open carry protected from sea to shining sea.
The handwriting is on the wall in Heller.

Gun control fanatics are their own worst enemy. They won't stop until their cause is utterly demolished.

10. Caused commotion - probably what carrier intended when he decided to sashay with it poking out.

Lots of people don't like it -- as evidenced here. Why would anyone do this?

12. Ain't hard to figure out, Pave. Why else would someone carry in a place like that?

80 year old greeter might jump em -- better strap the old gun on just in case.

15. Possibly because they didn't have a concealed carry permit.
That's how I got started open carrying, and you know what? It never causes a commotion. This guy has probably been open carrying without incident for a while.

16. Police should stop anyone carrying a gun, just like they'd do if it were a spear gun, bomb, machete.

Leave the dang things in the car before walking into to public. And, no, I don't care if it might get stolen out of the car. Should have thought of that before starting to carry a gun into public places.

17. Would that be one of those Wile E. Coyote bombs, with the burning fuse?

So you'd rather see a gun in the hands of a criminal than on the hip of a law-abiding gun owner? Not very civic-minded of you.

19. Join the church of "Tim" - you share so much with him already
You and he have much in common.

The only difference is he supports direct action against "gun toters" and you want someone else to do the dirty work for you. Otherwise, two peas in a pod as far as your belief system. You can probably geta discount when he reads your anti carry posts.

22. Pave, no one has a guarantee. Do u honestly think society should bow to your irrational fears.
Edited on Mon Apr-18-11 12:10 PM by Hoyt

Do you walk down the street on ready because your are consumed with fear of being attacked? That's a prescription for disaster, and a lot of pro-gunners here exhibit the same symptoms.
