Kindergartner brings gun to Texas school, 3 hurt

By JUAN A. LOZANO, Associated Press Juan A. Lozano, Associated Press – 41 mins ago
HOUSTON – A kindergartner who brought a loaded gun Tuesday to his Houston elementary school was among three students injured by fragments when it fired after falling from his pocket as he sat down for lunch, officials said.

One bullet was fired about 10:35 a.m. in the Ross Elementary School cafeteria, spraying fragments at the students, said Houston Independent School District Assistant Police Chief Robert Mock.

"Either some type of chips off the floor, or it could be pieces of the round that discharged," Mock said. "They had some cuts and stuff on their legs, they don't appear to be life threatening."

Kennedi Glapion, 6, who was being picked up from school by her grandmother, said she saw the gun after it fell under a cafeteria table. She was one of 42 kindergartners who were the first group of kids having lunch in the cafeteria on Tuesday when the gun went off.

Or more tax cuts?

9. And well we should be. This story is emblematic of the proliferation problem.
Too many guns, too much ammo, too easy access.

Obvious enough that a 5-year-old could see it.

10. I understand that you are frustrated Shares
But seriously you can't put the genie back in the bottle. Guns last for a long time. If you stopped all gun production today (an impossibility anyway)there would still be guns on this planet when your grandkids , grandkids are dust.

Do you not see that ?

11. I take the long view. Brown v. Board of Education finally reverses Plessy.
You must slow the train down before you can stop it, and you must stop the train before you can turn it around.

Simply acquiescing in unwholesome public policy isn't really an option.

Point to each outrage as it occurs and decry our national shame.

But far, far, far more people are killed by automobiles every year.

Where is the outrage at that national shame?

14. "Statistically rare occurence" .... ????
Every day there are deaths by gun -- intentional and otherwise!

Arming every citizen is something the nation decided against long ago -- wisely enough!

This is simply more of the rightwing taking us backwards!

And creating violence which they rise on!!

... gun banishment folks. They seem more agitated at the moment. Is the success of pro-2nd amendment legislation across the country alarming them? Do they sense a coming victory in 2012 and a go for broke effort to do away with guns? Could it be the opposite - a panic that 2012 will bring a pro-gun POTUS and Senate? In any case, I doubt it is true concern for the 3 children.

36. Calm down. The hysteria isn't need.
NO ONE is advocating guns for children. It is against Texas law for a person under 18 to have a gun unsupervised. It is illegal to have a gun in school. We have a parental problem here. They have to answer for leaving a gun available to a child. Your posts have proven the point of my post. You cannot respond logically. You wallow in the misconception you have created.

your illusion that you're supporting freedom rather than death simply profits

and aids the rise of the right --

32. you mean gun safety, recently a little girl in virginia where gun safety is now
taught in schools, found a gun in a walmart bathroom and turned it into an adult.

While the anti gun groups love it when children are killed in violence and accidents, it is their bread and butter.

26. 3 threads on one incident
It is amazing how the sharks circle at the slightest hint of blood. This is a regretful incident and one that could have been avoided by a little more parental care. We are locky that there were no serious injuries. I am much more appaled by the rush to use this incident to push the personal agendas of the posters here. It is shameless.
