SANTA MONICA — A motorist was shot by LAPD officers this morning after leading authorities on a pursuit over freeways and surface streets.

The chase ended about 6 a.m. near Pico and Lincoln boulevards in Santa Monica, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

At least one shot was fired at the car just after it collided at slow speed with a patrol car, but arial shots from ABC7 Eyewitness News' Air7 shows several bullets holes in the back window of the vehicle.

The suspect was seen being taken away by paramedics in an ambulance, but his condition was not immediately reported.

1. Looks like his vehicle was used as a deadly weapon...
Hard to say "no" based on the video.

2. Saw the video on the news today
You'd better be packing in Santa Monica cause the cops couldn't hit themselves in the ass with bass fiddles.

Numerous shots fired at ranges of what appeared to be 3-10 yards. According to the report "No one was injured." If that's the case there should be an influx of crooks into the area because the cops can't hit squat.

3. A followup report
Indicated that 3 officers fired on the vehicle. It did look like they might have emptied their weapons into the vehicle. The suspect was transfered to a hospital where he subsequently expired.

Not in the link, but another TV report quoted a police official saying they considered it a justifiable shoot, however they were going to change their deadly force guidelines to clarify ROE for similar situations in the future.

4. So much for accurate reporting.
Let's see: 3 cops shooting (I wonder if they had hi-cap mags) - that's at least 45 rounds fired if they used any kind of hi-cap or 30 if they use wimpy mags. I would hope they got him.

5. Accurate reporting...
or accurate shooting:-)

I just hope I never have to have my marksmanship in a perceived life threatening position reviewed. Hell, I hope I am never in a life-threatening position.
