I just read there is going to be an amendment to the gun manufacturer liability bill S. 1805 to renew the AWB.
I am against renewing the ban because if Bush gets reelected then I don't want to go to the concentration camps without a fight.

1. Frankly, I don't see why anyone needs assault weapons |
|
Maybe its just me.
I am not anti-gun, but I don't want gun toting FReepers to be running around with assault weapons. They already think we are the enemy. Shit, there are tons of books out there telling them exactly that.

You know what follows is always something bad.
It's like when your wife says "Hon, I love you, but..."

2. But some "liberals" on these forums... |

think that banning weapons is a "good thing". I still don't understand this. Liberals should be supporting the Bill of Rights and INDVIDUAL freedoms, not what the State wants us to do.
Baffling to say the least.

Gun control is the most authoritarian issue in the Democratic platform. It most definitely belongs on the other side instead.

Assault Weapons? What IS An Assault Weapon Exactly? (I BEG To Hear Any body's Response On This)
Everyone Agrees A AK-47 Is An Assault Weapon, But Simple Modifications Can Turn A 9mm Into An "Assault Weapon"
Leave Guns Alone... Just Punish Those That Abuse Their Right To Own A Gun More Harshly

8. what the heck is an "assault weapon" anyway? |
|
I have a rifle with a five-round detachable magazine that is suitable for hunting deer or wild boar. Federal law says that if I put a bayonet lug on it, suddenly I'd have created an evil "assault weapon" punishable by FIVE YEARS in a federal prison.
Let me see if I understand this. Here I am a US citizen, a non-felon, who legally owns a semi-automatic rifle in a .308 caliber, but I can't be trusted to with a bayonet on my rifle? How does that make any sense? Did Congress pass this law to cut down on all those drive-by bayonetings?
How can such a crazy law possibly make sense?

Against renewing the ban and you have a Kucinich avatar? Ask DK what he thinks. As bad as thing are, or could be, I'd hold off on the "conentration camp" thing.

This gets covered at least daily down here.
Let's make sure we've touched the usual bases:
1. We've got the obligatory "they can't even define an assualt weapon post", 2. we've got the "you'd think progressives on this site would support ALL rights, just not the ones they like post".
close enough - I'll close this up before we get the usual swipes in at Democratic senators who support the ban.
