Serious question for Gungeon loyalists.
The question: Why is everyone so pissed off these days?

We've got a deeply divided nation politically, with road rage and other forms of downright hostility and aggression everywhere. The posters in this forum are at each other's necks every day. Lunabush and I are going crazy dealing with all these alerts. What's going on?

I have a theory: I think it's all those damn low-carb diets. Really, I'm serious. There's plenty of scientific evidence that carbs play a positive role in maintining a normal, healthy mood. Low carbs, poor mood. Poor mood, pissed off.

So here's my challenge to the willing: Go out tomorrow and eat lots of spaghetti, bread, and pizza, and down it with a high-maltose beer (not that silly lite beer). Lunabush and I will do the same. Then, we'll see what happens tomorrow!

Goodnight everyone. :loveya:

3. I've been wondering the same thing for a couple of months now
I've been encountering more than what I consider a normal share of encounters with strangers, acquaintences, even some friends, behaving in a hostile, surly, rude, mean, inflexible, intolerant manner. I'm talking about life in general, not this forum.

I don't have any idea what it is. Your carbs theory makes as much sense as anything else I've heard, which naturally includes blaming everything on the Bush administration. :D

I think I'll have a real beer, maybe a Guinness, and quietly reflect on the GOP's treachery.

4. Nick the new guy.
Im fairly new to the board and just recently started posting in the "Gungeon". Im a gun rights supporter and I have been POUNDED for some of my positions. Im getting to the point of looking over my shoulder these days :)

Almost everyone I know is a liberal, some more some less, gun owner. Just my opinion but I think alot of people forget that liberals are alive and well in the south and alot of other "gun toting" parts of the country.

I like the forum though! Good work.

6. My own theory
for people in general out in the public is that mood and general surliness are inversely proportional to freedom. The more freedom people have the happier they are. So as people become less free they grow more angry and surly in general.

As for the general pissed offedness down here in the dungeon, you've got two sides that each hate the other because they don't like that the other side wants to take away their freedom. The gun grabbers want to take away the pro-gunners right to bear arms. The pro-gunners want to take away the gun grabbers freedom from fear or something. I don't care what anyone says, they're mutually exclusive positions and there is a lot of tension and downright hatred between the sides. It's nothing new down here in the dungeon.

and likely always will. To be honest, I don't think the regulars really are bothered by it too much. I noticed every regular poster down here seems to vanish for a week or two sometimes, as if they are feed-up with it down here...but no one leaves until they are banned.

I am willing to bet each regular makes the majority of his/her posts in the Gungeon. We just seem to like the conflict...to me a lot of the other boards appear kinda boring.

If it don't got carbs I want nothing to do with it. And, look at me, a more cheerful disposition you cannot find!

I agree with RoadRunner - eat some carbs, dammit!

9. Some scientific evidence from M.I.T.
M.I.T. study on relationship between carbohydrates and mood.

Wurtman, director of the Program in Women's Health at the MIT Clinical Research Center, and colleagues have found that when you stop eating carbohydrates, your brain stops regulating serotonin, a chemical that elevates mood and suppresses appetite. And only carbohydrate consumption naturally stimulates production of serotonin.

"When serotonin is made and becomes active in your brain, its effect on your appetite is to make you feel full before your stomach is stuffed and stretched," said Wurtman. "Serotonin is crucial not only to control your appetite and stop you from overeating; it's essential to keep your moods regulated."

But then I'm also not deluding myself about a supposed bloodbath in England.

Or deluding myself over what the courts say about the Second Amendment.

Or trying to pretend that Larry Pratt and Ted Nugent aren;t racist pices of shit.

Or trying to pretend that John AshKKKroft isn't peddling this diseased gun rights rhetoric.

18. I used to post down here a lot...
but got tired of the rabid hostility coming from certain posters on both sides of the issue. I also miss some of the posters that are no longer with us for various reasons, like 1a2b3c and Jody. I don't know why 1a2b3c got tombstoned, especially when some other posters that seem to be much nastier and more confrontational and prone to violate the rules haven't been, but hey, there's nothing I can do about it. And as for Jody, I'm still praying for him as much as I can, and hoping that he and the rest of his family are doing as well as they can. People who actually read this: send Jody some positive thoughts. He's in a world of hurt. Jody and 1a2b3c, you're missed, more than you know. There are other "lost posters" that I miss, so if I didn't mention you by name and you read this, you're not forgotten, either. Also, there's one poster here who I respect more than she probably knows, but she and I disagree tremendously on this one issue. I try not to get into fights with her on this issue (and we seem to agree with each other on most other things). Avoidance seems to be the best policy on that....some things you just shouldn't talk about if they cause too much strife.

The Gungeon just isn't what it used to be...

32. I've Been Posting In The Gungeon For A Long Time.....

....and it has always had an abundance of pissed-off, contentious participants, people who will never agree on guns or much of anything else. If you're here thinking you're going to somehow convert your opponents and end up singing "Kumbaya" with them in the sunset, forget about it. Enjoy the arguments, sharpen your own positions, trounce anybody who makes a truly idiotic statement, treat well-stated opposition comments with respect, and have done with it.

It's nicely ironic that some of the posters on this thread who are moaning about how nasty J/PS has gotten are the very individuals who have contributed some of the ugliest sentiments on this forum.....

38. I disagree.
So far in my short time here, I've only encountered one pissed-off contentious participant in our gun debates, and I've quickly come to realize that he is about as incurious as Dubya when it comes to discussing the issue and thinks that all pro-gun people are simply pushing the NRA's evil right-wing agenda. So I take him with a shaker of salt.

I really enjoy bouncing ideas off of people who may not agree with me, so long as they respect my opinion and understand why I have it. Likewise, I seek to fully grasp why other people have their opinions.

An issue wouldn't be "controversial" if everyone agreed on it.
