kit from a company called Traditions. They make 3 or 4 different kits. The metal parts are very very good. Italian barrels. The Wood is not so good but there are aftermarket stocks. Look for walnut. The brass inlay is alot easier than you think, you can get brass sheets almost anywhere. Mine is a .50 cal percussion, not flintlock. Easier to get caps than flint. I have a .50 cal matching pistol also, I've shot it, and its pretty fun. The fun thing to do is lobbing those big .50 cal lead balls about 100 yards to ring a bell.

the kit looks plain but after you do the inlays and stuff it looks very cool

5. Good God you've exposed the secret
black powder rifle kit loophole, now they're sure to close it.

6. LOL
man the patriot act shut my model rocketry hobby down bad. I had worked my way up to high power stuff and built a giant rocket for this summer and the "asscroft" rape hobby patriot act killed any chance I had getting a motor reload unless I get like 50 explosive permits.

13. It got real bad
We just lost our big lawsuit against the BATF. That hurt and cost us a ton in legal fee's. We can launch high power but the hoops we have to go through are incredible. Still when you build that first "big one" and it lights up its amazing. I'm not sure if you've ever seen a motor larger than G or even H go off but it'll make man nipples hard.

10. I think model rocketry is going to die out completely soon
Kids these days just don't have the patience to build real model rockets anymore. Estes now sells prebuilt rockets. Where is the pride of building it yourself, watching it blast off, and seeing your creation float away to oblivion?

12. The club
club I belong to in the Northwest has alot of kids as well as adults. Some have applyed for the explosive permit, I haven't. I probably will though just because I have so much into the new onw I built from scratch. It has an altimeter, a 2 stage firing computer and a digital camera. Wires coming out the kazoo. Your right though kids are loosing the art of modeling. Last year I won best of show for some 1950's cult monsters I built out of resin. Some kid came up to me and asked, "do these come already built?" I had to explain to him I had about 500 hours in building and detailing them. My Creature of the Black Lagoon is incredible. He was shocked. I think Nintendo would be good for him.

24. Or, better yet, explode?
4th of July, 1976, at dusk, I sent a rocket up that I packed with gunpowder, gas soaked padding, and something else wicked, I am sure. When the booster for the parachute kicked in the whole damn thing ignited. It was a georgious fireball.

My step-mother nearly had a heart attack. I plead ignorance, my dad looked at me funny for several weeks. I'd probably end up in reform school these days, but it was all worth it for the look on my step mothers face.

Where, indeed, is the pride?

7. I don't
hunt or anything, don't have the heart to kill anything but I'm not an anti-hunter either. I just like shooting old style guns, Its pretty fun and smokey lol. The skill is "lobbing" the shot. those balls are heavy. Its also a pretty cheap hobby.

11. I've seen
those cheaper from Dixie Gun works I think, I'll check. My 2 favorites are a Sharps and a "real" hawkin replica. The Hawkin kits today don't resemble the real ones much. There are some beautiful sharps out there.

For about $750 Navy Arms will cheerfully mail you a functioning modern replica Le Mat pistol. Here's one of three versions:

Load it up and you're good to go with NINE shots of .44 caliber ball plus about a 6-inch shot load of about .65 inches, roughly 20 gauge.
