What the sunsetting of the AW ban means to me: |
|
It's a sign of how lucky I've been. You see, on the day the Senate passed the AW ban, I was driving between my old home and my new home, the one in which I began cohabitating with my future wife.
Here we are, 10 years later, and I cannot tell you how happy those 10 years have been, despite this stupid piece of legislation. To steal a paraphrase from the eulogy of one of the fathers of the dead football players in the movie "Heathers": "I love my wife. I love my fat, whiny, pregnant wife."

1. So, in the past 10 yrs, how much better would your life have been if |
|
you had been able to legally purchase a new gun that included a bayonet attachment?

2. Since I've never actually used a bayonetted rifle... |
|
for a serious social purpose, I don't think it made much of a difference. I've still got some, though. My favorite is the #3 Mark 1 SMLE, with the pattern 1907 bayonet on it. It is, of course, not affected by the AW ban, but it makes a hell of a negotiating tool. :)

When the AWB sunsets, I'll probably buy a new barrel for my M4 with a flash suppressor. That's about it.

6. One very small semi-private ritual planned |
|
I have a Colt pre-ban (probably USGI) A2-style (probably really A2) upper receiver that will be ceremoniously attached to a homebuilt AR-15 built on a presently "post-ban" PWA lower receiver. I will then fire off one full 30-round magazine as rapidly as the shooting range will permit.
Although I have always despised the federal AWB, and in spite of the ease with which I could have temporarily created the planned configuration in the privacy of my home or at a remote shooting range, as a matter of moral principle I have never violated the AWB.
Most types of AR-15 lowers are priceless here in California because we cannot acquire them legally since midyear 2000.

When this asinine ban expires, I will be attaching a bayonet, flash suppressor, and collablsible stock to my "play" AR. I will do this for no good reason except that I can. I will celebrate the end of one of the most retarded laws of all time by buying full capacity magazines at normal prices. I will celebrate the slippery slope to freedom by firing 500 rounds in one range session. I will celebrate by cleaning my gun, and putting it back in the safe before relaxing before the fire with some vintage port.

8. I Will Convert My M1 Garand.... |
|
Adding a "Nigerian" Mark IV Pistol Grip Stock.... www.reesesurplus.com
Sending it to a gunsmith to have some surplus metal removed and a BM-59 type mag latch added so that I can use B.A.R. magazines - available from Gun Parts Corps in 10-20-30 round configurations....
then I will slaughter innocent paper targets in "Unlimited" competions, and take the occasional deer in season.
If I become ambitious, I may assemple my own AR style AW from the best available parts and do more slaughtering of paper targets....
Kinda like reading books that are banned.... BECAUSE I CAN!.....:bounce:

I already have all the firearms I need/want. I actually prefer the muzzle brake to a "flash Hider". I already have all the high capacity magazines I will ever need or want. Any more would just gather dust and corrode in my safe. I am not a collector, I believe it is a human right to defend oneself. I also believe it is wise to use the best tool for the job which is a firearm.

13. I need another drop-free hi-cap for my G23. |

Non-drop-free mags really suck. They feel like you're forcing them in.
