My object all sublime.... |

Pukes get in and loot the treasury, Dems get in and build it up again, and the cycle repeats. But each time the country is worse off than before. Well, darn it, why shouldn't we get the money back? How about presidential pardons being conditional upon any money involved being returned to the U.S. treasury? For example, Ray-gun administration violations of the Boland Act involved money. Shouldn't that money have been returned before pardons were issued?
And how can white criminals who steal millions or billions of dollars get off with a small fine and some community service? Why isn't the mandatory minimum for white collar crime the return of ALL the money, plus a fine, and prison (not the country club type) if every red cent isn't returned?
I've got a little list....
(Feeling very Gilbert & Sullivan this morning.)

1. I always wondered why we couldn't sell Ken Lays homes |

and rebuild the retirement fund for Enron employees, and same for Bernie Ebbers et al at MCI
You will only stop corporate crime if they start losing the $$. A few years in jail may be worth it to many if, when they get out, they still have 10's of millions....

2. You have an excellent point. |

If the police can confiscate property and cash from us little people as "suspected drug money" without a trial, why not Ken Lay?

4. I don't know why this hasn't stopped yet. |

It is surely a violation of the bill of rights. Ah yes, the "war" on drugs is yet another misguided failure left over from the Reagan years.

Reagan certainly got it going with full force, but now most of both parties have bought into it. It is very frustrating.
The entire "War on Drugs" is a failure. The wide-spread confiscation of property is an abomination.

6. This is why it's so important to fight tort reform. |
|
Criminal law barely addresses the issue of restitution. The only way to really pry open Ken Lay's pocketbook would be a class action suit.
