I'm thinking about an FAL. What is the skinny on these?

1. Great choice.

The FAL is really a much better battle rifle than the AR-15/M-16 IMHO. I want to buy another rifle too but since I've already bought a FAL, 2 1911's, and a S&W 610 10mm revolver this year, I think the wife will have my head if I come home w/ another gun this year.

Parts Kits are getting hard to find now though. Plus you have to wait on the gunsmith to build it. But with a parts kit you can customize your FAL to your liking.

If you want one today get a factory DSA. Avoid Hesse and Century built ones at all cost.

6. excellent choice.

I built mine 2 years ago, it's an Imbel kit built on a Coonan receiver. runs like a train, cheap milsurp ammo is available and 20 round mags can be had for as little as $4. I just got a new set of wood furniture for it and I'm getting it refinished or I'd be showing it off as well. Falfiles.com is a good place to go, lots of good technical advice and not as rabidly right wing as arf.com or ak47.net

I used to really want a G3, but now at days I'm really wanting to get an M1A.

8. How about a CETME if you want to be different.

From what I've read they are basically Spanish pre-H&K G3 type rifles, lots of parts are interchangable between them and the G3s.
