BOSTON — Idaho Democrats acknowledge they don't agree with their presidential candidate on at least two issues: gun control and the environment.

The split can be seen by comparing the Idaho Democratic Platform with the Democratic National Convention platform, which reflects Kerry's views.

On the subject of guns, the Idaho Democrats simply say they support Americans' constitutional rights to "own and use firearms." There is no mention of any kind of restrictions on gun use.

The national platform echoes support for the Second Amendment but goes on to urge renewal of the assault weapons ban and background checks for people who want to buy firearms at gun show

My commentary:

I really don't have much. I believe that the Idaho platform would be a better choice.

1. If I were writing the Idaho Democrats' playbook...

...I would emphasize opposing outsourcing by corporations and giving preference to small business and companie that "put America and Idaho first." I would counterpose the rural "Idaho Democrat" with the snobbish, pro-free trade DC GOPers.
