1. Parents say - guns were unloaded
Dad says that he was teaching gun safety to the kids moment before. No eye protection or hearing protection visible.

4. Hmmmmm, teaching gun safety, eh?
First rule: There is no such thing as an unloaded gun!

2. I think there was a General thread on this.
As I said there, any household with children and unsecured guns should have neither.

3. The new bit on this was that parents were on defending their actions

5. Well, tough shit.
Guns aren't toys. People like this are the reason gun owner stereotypes hold any water. They make us look bad with their unacceptable actions.

They shouldn't be breeding or owning guns.

6. Hear Hear.
Although you won't ever see GMA or the Today Show showing videos of people properly and safely handling firearms. Hmmm, I wonder why that is?

9. That would be boring! :) It would be nice if they took a moment,...
...while they have the spotlight, to explain at least one or two common misconceptions about unloading firearms though.

should be treated as loaded, right?"

23. Agreed.
During the day, I carry one or two on me, the rest are in a fairly substantial safe that is located in the old coal room (a concrete room in the basement). The coal room door is a reinforced steel door with three deadbolts. Basically, I have a safe within a safe. Pretty cool. When sleeping, I place the gun I plan on wearing the next day in my wife's walk in closet in a life-jacket.

The life jacket can be found here: http://www.labsafety.com/store/product_group.asp?dept_id=40428&parent_id=426

7. I'll try and stop short of saying these parents should be jailed...
...for child endangerment, although that is difficult to do in this situation. I do hope that these parents get a not so friendly visit from Child Protective Services because I am willing to bet that parents such of these practice much more unsafe behavior than just what is being witnessed here.

10. According to the interview they face felony charges of child endangerment
the kids have voluntarily been placed with relatives pendig investigation both by social services and LE.

Their continued response was that the video actually shows them unloadig guns and that they were certain the guns were, indeed, unloaded. We all know what that it worth. One clip shows mom with a rifle in one hand and a beer in another, turning her head from the range to talk to a family member. The rifle careens wildly.

Unfortunately they can't be charged with felony stupidity too.

14. Even one time is too often.
These parents should lose their right to ever own a firearm and their suitability as parents should be thoroughly investigated.

18. Ok, I don't know what these fuckwit programs are called
This is the one with Matt Lauer and Katie Curic and on my TV it has the little peacock in the lower righthand corner. I admit to being completely ignorant of TV programming. I will say if you are one of the 10k subscribers on my incredibly tiny cable system its Channel 10. :P

25. That's "Today"
A program that was great in its heyday when people like Dave Garroway, Hugh Downs, and John Chancellor anchored it. It's a mere shadow of itself now.

26. They all look the same to me and I can't I.D. them either. Going...
...by the commercials that are shown during the programs, I am not a member of their target audience. I am also certain that vaginal cream is not related to that whipped-cream thing that I don't talk about because it gets threads locked. :) :)

19. Bad in so many ways.
Alcohol and guns.
Who in the hell lets their 3 year old child, get 100 yards away from them, at any time?
If somebody thinks a 3 year old child is incapable of loading a revolver, they are gravely mistaken.

28. my wife shot the video.....I live next door to these nutjobs
This video is just the icing on the cake....

We've called CPS nemuerous times...because of the inactivity and the dangerous situations we see over there day in & day out, we decided to videoing the negligence we see. Lo & behold the very 1st endevor give us national news.

other problems include....

--todlers frequently in the road----55mph rural country road. One time the 2 year old girl was found wandering down the road a quarter mile away and no one was the wiser.

--todlers frequently in the swimming pool unsupervised, unless you count the 6 year old as supervision.

--5 children with 3.5 fathers, there's a little bit of confusion here.

--then there was the night the oldest girl tried to commit suicide. she was 13 and was home alone with the other 4 children ages 2-10. the mother was out and the girl took herself a whole bottle of tylenol PM. my wife was the one who called 911 and had to watch all the children while the ambulance came to get the oldest daughter. BTW, the mother was found shitty drunk in a bar.

--the oldest daughter, the one from above, now has a live in 19 YO boyfriend, she's now 13.

--the rest of the video not only show them drinking and shooting by the sorry assed chick actually aimed her loaded rifle at my mother's house. I'll tell you what, if I had been home when that happened the fecal matter would have hit the rotary device for real kine.

it is nice to see the PRO & CON RKBA guys on the same page with this.
