County aims for gun registry
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 07:58 AM by Superfly
Registration is the first step in seeking to "ban" firearms.

<snip>

Oswego County will run a gun amnesty program this month that allows residents to register unregistered pistols without penalty.

3. Gee fly
I'm not the one screaming that Oswego county (wherever the hell that is) is going to take his precious loved one....

Some reason why there's no link, fly?

5. Sounds like law abiding gun owners
trying to be sure they're law abiding gun owners....

"Keeping an unregistered handgun can have consequences. Police who find such weapons can charge the gun owner with criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor or felony charge, depending on the severity of the case. Possession of a stolen handgun can lead to even more serious charges.

"We have people come in all the time and ask, 'How can I make this gun legal? What do I do with it?' " Preston said. "This opens the door for them to bring them in." "

6. That's a good thing, Bench!
"Sounds like law abiding gun owners
trying to be sure they're law abiding gun owners...."

And it's the case for most gun owners. The ones that will comply with the registration are the law-abiding. Criminals, OTOH, will not.

7. And that means
that while building a case for murders and robberies, county authorities will at least have gun charges to keep criminal suspects from gfleeing the jurisdiction.

I thinnk nationwide gun registration and gun owner licensing would be a very positive step to cut down on the carnage in this country.

8. Why on earth would anyone register their firearms in America?
Is this a county or state requirement? There is no good reason to register something that the constitution give you a right to own.

It's as foolish as asking that one be registered to practice free speech. Whomever proposed that citizens should register their guns needs to be thrown out of office. Please tell me it was not a democrat that thought this ignorant registration crap was useful.

9. I registered a few "assault weapons" here in California
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 01:39 PM by slackmaster
Registering them has allowed me to transport them without fear of reprisal and to use them with impunity. It's a lot easier to teach young shooters about what the laws are really about when you have an example that they can examine and fire and ask questions about.

People who didn't register them faced a predicament: Hide and take out and use occasionally, or bury them until sanity takes over the state or the shit hits the fan, whichever comes first.

Whomever proposed that citizens should register their guns needs to be thrown out of office.

One of the core constituencies of the movement to recall California Governor Gray Davis is gun owners. In that regard he's as reviled as Republican George Deukmejian, who signed the state's first "assault weapon" bill into law.

US Representative Darrell Issa, who got consumed by the revolution he started, is strongly pro-RKBA. A lot of the momentum to get the required number of signatures on the recall petition was propagated on gun rights discussion boards on the Internet.

BTW welcome to DU.

11. Also, one of the
"core constituencies of the movement to recall Davis" are Democrats who feel let down by Davis' abysmal performance.

I've never before met anyone who claimed to BE a core constituency all by his lonesome....

but then there's at least one RKBA enthusiast on here who claimed he personally is a "people" and a "militia" too....

And yet you claimed you're pushing for it....I guess that's RKBA "logic."

Californian voters don't exactly have a good track record picking representatives. The person they vote in to follow Davis can only be worse, if that's possible. Davis needs to go.
