1. heh.....
"Bell was volunteering on the phone banks Sept. 29 at the headquarters located on Van Dyke Avenue, between 21 and 22 Mile roads, when other workers noticed the gun, according to the report. "

sucks when you're own gun-nut NRA cronies don't support your right to wear a gun when and wherever you want.

6. It may be that
the NRA supports the republican party. But it's incorrect to say that all repubs are NRA cronies. I actually know a few repubs that don't agree with the NRA.

If I could just get them to see the light on the other issues.

2. OOPS, they misjudged that one.
Well, there goes that 2nd amendment thing.

"Bell was volunteering on the phone banks Sept. 29 at the headquarters located on Van Dyke Avenue, between 21 and 22 Mile roads, when other workers noticed the gun, according to the report. Workers notified police after he left, and officers told them to call back if the man returned."

4. MI is a "shall issue" state
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 03:10 PM by Romulus
Must have been one of those "no permit needed" types . . .:eyes:

Couldn't be bothered to fill out the form and take the training? :nopity:
UNbelievable!

Edited to add: I saw "Macomb County" and read "Macon County" hence the original GA/MI screwup :dunce:

5. Funny thing...
outstate people often pronounce 'Macomb' like 'May-cum'. Similar to Macon. You are forgiven.

8. Concealment
He should have done a better job concealing his firearm.

And picked a better for which party to volunteer.

10. I guess...
I should get a license, sit in the back of the bus, and not question the government.

11. I would agree IF...
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 07:59 AM by MrSandman
Licenses were granted on the basis of need as determined by the .gov. Since, as I understand, MI is like WV, in that if you feel a need, the permit SHALL be issued he would not have been asking permission, but asserting his right.

I do not see this as asking permission, but employing the government as my agent to insure that non-prohibited individuals are legally carrying weapons.

I do have some quibbles with implementation. I do not believe that the CHL process is a legitimate revenue source. But I do agree to the philosophy attached to it.

On edit: I understand your position in a may issue state. However, are you going to buy a ticket to get "permission" to set on the bus to begin with.

I question the government regularly, but when I feel strongly, there are mechanisms for me to influence the government.

13. Michigan
Michigan has mandatory gun registration via mandatory "safety" inspections. So, sorry if I don't include Michigan on the list of states that respect the rights of firearms owners. I don't mind licensing concealed carry nearly as much as I mind gun registration. Unfortunately, in Michigan, you can't have a gun to carry without registering it.

16. MI CPL does not list the weapon...
As best I can tell from packing.org.

Get a license. From the way I read MI law, he was in violation of more than unlawful carry.

While I agree with you on registration, the laws are not arbitrary. I am not defending the state as gun friendly, but if the laws are overly-repressive, he can petition his legislature or vote with his feet.

12. Just because you equate gun ownership restrictions with racism and...
authoritarianism, that doesn't necessarily make it the case, you poor down-trodden, repressed freedom fighter.

14. Actually...
I live in Ohio, where I don't have to register my guns, and I can easily get a concealed handgun license. I can even carry openly without a license if I wish. Michigan is the problematic gun-registering state in question. As a non-resident, I can even carry in Michigan on my Ohio license without registering my firearms.

15. Virginia
Is a 'shall issue' state, and unlike MI, doesn't have any back door
registration issues, like their 'safety inspection' deal.
Dumb-ass deserves to get busted if he's too lazy to get a permit.

Common sense (gee, what am I thinking?) says that if you are concealed
carrying, you need to make sure that it's concealed. Duh....:o
