So another law would prevent this lawbreaker from further violations of the law?

No, I don't know how he obtained the guns. He violated the law in order to do so. Another law is needed? So he could violate that one as well? BWAAAAAAAAA

28. Right! couldn't ever be made again
All knowledge of gunmaking would be thrown out as well, we know that a gun must be made in a factory, nobody could possibly make one in a home shop or anything.

5. I thought this part of the article...
...was kind of funny.

"Student privacy rules prohibited SCSU from disclosing what year Difusco was in, what he was studying or his hometown."

But they disclosed his name, age, the fact that he lives in an apartment on campus, and his past legal history.
A quick yahoo people search come up with two Joseph Difusco's, one in NY and another in RI.

Why bother protecting the guy? He broke the law and deserves to be punished.

6. "Proves" beyond any doubt how well gun laws work
Edited on Fri Sep-12-03 08:06 AM by shatoga
Gun control laws failed to disarm 'this' convicted felon repeat offender:
>Difusco has felony convictions for a firearms violation in California and for drug possession in New Haven and is barred by law from possessing any guns.<

Just proves anyone, anywhere in the world can trade money for illegal guns.

Where is the proof to that unfounded accusation against the gun industry?

Is Eli Lilly to be blamed when someone buys street drugs?

Same "logic"

Backbone? Yes obviously.

Brain? Unproven assertion.

Argument and accusation based entirely on conjecture.

No, he aqquired the weapons- nobody forced them on him. He did it despite a law against owning weapons by a felon. New law would help in what way???

19. Sounds Like an NRA Poster Child Here
From the referenced article:

Difusco has felony convictions for a firearms violation in California and for drug possession in New Haven and is barred by law from possessing any guns. He also may face federal charges, said John Prokop, chief of campus police.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was investigating.

Campus police searched Difusco's apartment Friday following a tip from the parent of one of Difusco's three roommates. The parent said Difusco was hiding a gun in a wastebasket in the apartment.

Campus police did not have a search warrant, but Difusco consented to a search of the apartment and helped police locate a gun in a drawer, Prokop said.

Police seized a fully automatic 9 mm machine gun, which requires a special federal permit to possess; a Mac 9 pistol; and a flare gun that had been converted into a .410-gauge, single-shot weapon.

If I were a pro-gunner (and I'm not), I'd want to see steps taked to keep people like this as far away from guns as possible, because assholes like this make all gun owners look bad.

25. CO, what steps do you propose be "taked to keep people like this as far
away from guns as possible"?

In addition, Difusco does not make law abiding gun-owners look bad, he makes anti-gun activists look bad because he proves that more laws will not keep felons from obtaining firearms.

Of course I could be wrong and will correct my assertion iff an anti-gun activist comes up with a new law that would have prevented Difusco from getting a gun and that law does not infringe on the inalienable right of law abiding citizens to defend self and property and use firearms in exercising that right.

If you try to buy a gun and your name's on the list, no gun for you and back to jail.

32. Good idea CO Liberal! BATF already does that/ doesn't work
but still a good idea.

The guy had repeat felony convictions.
Why was he still out on the street where he could buy illegal guns?

BTW/ illegal guns are cheaper than legal guns, no waiting period,
no background check.
And sometimes it's a cop doing the selling.

33. CO, the DNC platform claims success for passing such a bill, see:
QUOTE
They stood up to the gun lobby, to pass the Brady Bill and ban deadly assault weapons - and stopped nearly half a million felons, fugitives, and stalkers from buying guns.
AND
That's why Democrats fought and passed the Brady Law and the Assault Weapons Ban. We increased federal, state, and local gun crime prosecution by 22 percent since 1992. Now gun crime is down by 35 percent.
QUOTE

I understand the claim of stopping "nearly half a million felons, fugitives, and stalkers from buying guns" is exaggerated.

26. Its called prison
The only way you can keep people like this away from guns is prison. Also, random inspections by his parole officer after release from prison. To think that a new gun law would prevent a guy that violated an old gun law from doing it again is foolish.

"In 1970, a new Firearms Act replaced the 1955 British Firearms Ordinance. The law imposed national firearm registration and gun-owner licensing under exceedingly stringent requirements. In practice, the law was used to make it illegal for anyone to have a firearm, except persons deemed politically correct by the Obote dictatorship."

"In response to Amin's murderous rule, the Karamojong began producing their own guns, fashioning gun barrels from the steel tubing of metal furniture. These homemade guns were then used tactically to acquire better and more powerful ones by attacking isolated police outposts where acquisition would not be terribly costly in terms of tribal lives. "

Hello! CO Liberal..anybody home?

>barred by law from possessing any guns<
Is exactly what you advocate for all of US.

Did >barred by law from possessing any guns< prevent this twice convicted felon from buying black market guns?

Are you paying any attention at all?

>barred by law from possessing any guns< only disarms law abiding citizens!

Criminals by definition break laws.
Passing more stupid laws is not the solution!

Your ideas would only serve to leave criminals armed, and law abiding citizens unable to defend themselves.

>barred by law from possessing any guns< only disarms law abiding citizens!

Are you paying any attention at all?
NO!

Your argument is self refuting!
>barred by law from possessing any guns< only disarms law abiding citizens!

Since there are laws against this kind of thing happening, and everyone obeys the laws, we can only assume that this report is false.
