I bought ammo on National Ammo Day last year, but I forgot yesterday. I must not have been hanging out on enough gun fora.

I need to spend more time on Glocktalk!

I'll pick up some today. I'll be up by Bass Pro later.

9. and Nov 20th is Universal Children's Day
What an interesting coincidence.

http://www.kamloopshomes.net/CanadaHomeSearch/Public/Homepage/index.cfm?action=ViewNewsletter&articleid=444

November 20th is Universal Children's Day: the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, an international agreement adopted by the United Nations on November 20, 1989. The Convention recognizes that all people under the age of 18 have certain needs in common, including health and safety, education and a nurturing environment.

Tragically, for millions of children around the world, these fundamental human rights are casualties of the everyday reality of war. Some have never known peace or a stable community. They have grown up in the midst of an occupation by a foreign army or in refugee camps far from their homes and families. They may be caught in the cross-fire of a civil war in which neither side is concerned for the safety of civilians.

The worldwide human rights organization Amnesty International has expressed grave concerns over human rights abuses related to the recruitment of child soldiers in many countries. More than 300,000 boys and girls are thought to be fighting in conflicts around the world, while hundreds of thousands more are members of armed forces who could be sent into combat at any time. Most child soldiers are between 15 and 18 years old, but many are as young as 10. Some are even younger. ...

Maybe you can share a poster child:

http://www.un.org/Depts/dhl/children_day/

http://www.un.org/ga/president/57/pages/speeches/statement021120-Children.htm

In May 2002, United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Children was unprecedented in bringing together one of the largest meetings of Heads of State and delegations, NGOs and child advocates to the United Nations who dedicated themselves to children and adolescents of the world. Children and young people themselves participated in this event at the United Nations and requested to create "A world fit for them." The General Assembly adopted the document entitled "A World Fit For Children" which defined the goals, strategies and actions to improve the lives of children.

I urge all Member States and other actors involved with children to accord their priority to the needs of children. We all share the responsibility for our children. Let us do our best to guarantee a better future for them.

Glad to see you all doing your bit.

I hope I won't be hearing much more crap about firearms control being "racist" in the near future.

Not given the despicable responses here to the REALITY of millions of children in the world who aren't white and aren't USAmerican, and for whom firearms and ammunition aren't playthings, they're instruments of terror.

Don't give a crap about them, and think that pretty pictures of little blond boys and girls in the USofA somehow rebut the horror of their lives? I know what I call that.

Is that a crime now or something to be reviled?

I hope I won't be hearing much more crap about firearms control being "racist" in the near future.

You mean since those poor black African nations can't exhibit any control or civility among themselves, it's up to the "great white peace keepers" to step in and confiscate their firearms (for their own good ya'know).

Seems like you're the one who is making a "race" issue out of this.

"National Ammo Day + "happy, healthy WHITE children" = racism towards African children.

Maybe they teach logic a little differently in the Canadian school system... eh?

I know what I call that.

"You mean since those poor black African nations can't exhibit any control or civility among themselves, it's up to the "great white peace keepers" to step in and confiscate their firearms (for their own good ya'know)."

Only someone with no regard for truth would suggest that this is what I meant, or pretend to believe that this is what I meant. (Only someone too dim to feed him/herself would actually think that this is what I meant.)

Who said anything about "confiscating" firearms from "poor black African nations"?

And btw, who said that said "poor black African nations" "can't exhibit any control or civility among themselves"?

NOT I. That was you.

There are would-be vicious oppressors everywhere, not just in "poor black African nations". The ones there just happen to be rather well-armed by the vicious exploiters elsewhere who supply them with the means to carry out their projects, and to operate in societies where the rule of law doesn't hold much sway.

"Great white peacekeepers"? Heard of the Organization of African States lately? Familiar at all with the peacekeeping work done by BLACK AFRICAN states through the African Union? I didn't think so.

Europe has: http://europa-eu-un.org/articles/et/article_3566_et.htm

EU mobilises 12 million <Euros> from Peace Facility to support African Union peace keeping operation in Darfur, Sudan (Brussels)
So has Canada: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/1095509659565_73?s_name=&no_ads=

Canada will ask the UN's industrialized countries to heavily support such an African Union force, a senior Canadian official said from New York.
Damn; so has the United States:
http://www.why-war.com/news/2004/08/04/africanu.html

African Union Plans To Deploy Peacekeeping Force In Darfur

STAFF | Agence France-Presse | August 4, 2004

"(The force) is evolving into a mission to maintain peace... with probable logistical support from the United States," Thiam explained.

It seems somebody's being a paternalistic boor here, and it ain't me.

"National Ammo Day + "happy, healthy WHITE children" = racism towards African children.
Maybe they teach logic a little differently in the Canadian school system... eh?

Response to post regarding plight of children in Africa who are routinely tortured and killed, and forced to torture and kill = pictures of well-fed little white kids in the USofA playing with guns.

I don't need my undergraduate logic courses or law degree to recognize bullshit when I see it.

And I also don't need my undergraduate ethics courses to recognize the absence thereof when I see it.

Was the little blonde in the middle photo planning to eat the furry critter at her feet? Or did it just make for good target practice? Glee at killing animals as a child is often a precursor of abusing people in later years, I think we all know.

Failure to learn empathy at a very young age destroys all chance of being a healthy individual and decent member of society; in fact, the child soldiers of Africa, if they live, will be permanently damaged and miserable, and a huge problem for their societies for the rest of their lives.

But hey, it's just Africa, and if there's a buck for the firearms industry to make selling the firearms that make it all possible, that's what matters. And dog forbid that any little blond white kid in the USofA shouldn't have the means to shoot all the critters s/he wants.

That's what Universal Children's Day should really be all about, right?

I posted a message about Universal Children's Day that included information about the abuse of children who are pressed into paramilitary service in Africa.

Guy managed to bring pretty blonde USAmerican girls playing with guns into it.

Ummmmm, no... not really. The original poster asked about "National Ammo Day".... not about "Universal Children's Day"...let it sink in... follow the dots.

Riddle me this... whom felt obligated to respond in kind about some unrelated topic regarding "Universal Children's Day"? ... follow the dots.

Starting at the end:

The photos in question came from someone's personal web site, so I'd think that the someone whose web site it was might know who the children are and where the photos were taken. You could ask, eh?

The landscape in that first one doesn't look particularly Canadian; and I still don't know what that furry critter in the second one is; I've never seen one myself. Perhaps they live in Alberta. Or perhaps these were Canadian children on safari abroad.

If they had been Canadian children in Canada, the adults in the vicinity would have been in violation of the criminal law (keep in mind that it is a violation of the criminal law to be in possession of a firearm without a permit):

http://www.canlii.org/ca/sta/f-11.6/sec8.html

8. (1) An individual who is less than eighteen years old and who is otherwise eligible to hold a licence is not eligible to hold a licence except as provided in this section.

Minors hunting as a way of life

(2) An individual who is less than eighteen years old and who hunts or traps as a way of life is eligible to hold a licence if the individual needs to hunt or trap in order to sustain himself or herself or his or her family.

Hunting, etc.

(3) An individual who is twelve years old or older but less than eighteen years old is eligible to hold a licence authorizing the individual to possess, in accordance with the conditions attached to the licence, a firearm for the purpose of target practice, hunting or instruction in the use of firearms or for the purpose of taking part in an organized competition.

No prohibited or restricted firearms

(4) An individual who is less than eighteen years old is not eligible to hold a licence authorizing the individual to possess prohibited firearms or restricted firearms or to acquire firearms or cross-bows.

Consent of parent or guardian

(5) An individual who is less than eighteen years old is eligible to hold a licence only if a parent or person who has custody of the individual has consented, in writing or in any other manner that is satisfactory to the chief firearms officer, to the issuance of the licence.
I see at least one kid who is apparently under the age of 12.

And ignoramus that I am, I don't know what that gadget in the hands of the little blonde crouching over the dead furry critter is, so I don't know whether it is restricted or prohibited in Canada. If you care to enlighten me, I'll look it up.

Ummmmm, no... not really. The original poster asked about "National Ammo Day".... not about "Universal Children's Day"...let it sink in... follow the dots.

Riddle me this... whom <sic> felt obligated to respond in kind about some unrelated topic regarding "Universal Children's Day"? ... follow the dots.

That's all quite fascinating, but nothing to do with the allegation in question -- you know, what I was talking about -- which was:

"Gee a guy posted a picture with a kid holding a gun in it and somehow you managed to bring Africa into it"
and which was false.

Hmmm, who was it that posted the following? "Maybe you can share a poster child"

Oh look! It was I! (Congratulations on not using "whom" improperly yet again in that sentence.)

Are you attempting to say, here, that you offered your pics as poster children for Universal Children's Day? To be shared by National Ammunication Day? Well, I liked mine better. There we are.

Ummmmm, no... not really. The original poster asked about "National Ammo Day".... not about "Universal Children's Day"...let it sink in... follow the dots.

Which would be really relevant, if anyone had said that the original poster asked about Universal Children's Day, eh?

The original poster said:

Nov 19th national ammo day
I said:

and Nov 20th is Universal Children's Day
Hell, that was a damned sight more à propos than a lot of what one sees hereabouts being passed off as a "response".

Nonetheless, the point is really very simple, and I just can't figure out why you felt the urge to keep missing it:

Gee a guy posted a picture with a kid holding a gun in it and somehow you managed to bring Africa into it
was false.

One joins DU, obviously because one is looking for someplace to hang out with like-minded liberal/progressive/Democrat folks, and tells one's newfound friends all about one's ammunition acquisitions, in one's début post.

One post, 16 lbs + 3000 bits of ammunition.

Now there's a record it will be hard to top. Shall I look for one in, oh, the activism and events forum, reporting on the dozens, nay hundreds, or perhaps tonnes, of one's liberal/progressive/Democrat activities that one is doubtless anxious to report on?

It went like this, in case you somehow missed it (emphasis added in case you still need assistance):
